Morning all,
Been lurking around the forum again after seeing a great looking RX3 for sale on Ebay (unfortunately wont be affording something like that just yet) but it did get me thinking about rotaries again. Currently have an EP3 for general fun stuff which I like but after owning 2 EGI's im not enjoying it as much as either of them. Yes its faster in a straight line, newer and not to slow in the bends but it doesn't really excite me as much.
So now thinking of what to get next year once I sell my house and move in with the girlfriend.
First thought was an RX8 as have always liked them and if I keep the interior the kids would also like it as they love going out for a drive now and then. Quick question though for any taller owners, is there plenty of head room when wearing a helmet for track days?
Im 6'1 and in the FC had to slouch a bit to fit in.
Still tempted by another EGI though as I did love it and always wanted to PP or Bridgeport one and would be able to do such things next year.
What are the RX8's like once ported?
Thanks
Mark
Hi Mark,
Good to see you back,
Having owned both the best way to answer is, if you enjoyed the EGI you will love the RX-8 even in bone stock form also crash helmet wont be a problem :)
Hi Clive,
Thanks for the info. Think I might take a look at the RX8 once the house is sold then.
Quite tempted to get one in need of a rebuild and then get work done straight away on it to get it to how I would like it.
Has anyone got any thoughts or preferences with regards to porting the engine in the RX8?
Thanks
Mark
Hi Mark
I remember you from a trackday at Mallory a few years back; it was in August and it was pouring with rain :)
Re the RX-8 and helmet - you shouldn't have a probelm as long as you get one that doesn't have a sunroof, as that shaves off too much headroom!
Porting the Renesis; there's a lot of cars out there now, mostly with streetports and I can tell when I'm on track with them as they have a definite advantage on the straights. Everyone I've spoken to with a ported engine has commented on the improved low down torque in particular, with no problems in day to day driveability, so a no-brainer if rebuilding. I don't think there are too many bridge-ported Renesis engines out there yet (AFAIK), but I would certainly suggest you speak to Carl Hayward if you want to bridge-port, as he has more experience with it than others and can advise on pros/cons.
Hope to see you in a rotary f some sort next year maybe ;D
Malcolm
Hi Malcolm,
Yes I remember that day, typical sunny August :)
Will do some more research whilst I bide my time.
Thanks again and I look forward to getting in a rotary again
Mark
