The new forum has a great deal more you can customise than the old forum. For instance, as well as adding a custom avatar, you can easily add “buttons†below your avatar to link directly to your social media sites, such as;
• Facebook
• MySpace
• Twitter
• Google+
• LinkedIn
• Youtube
• DevianArt
• Pinterest
You can also add a custom title (Full Members only) that will display under your username on every post. See "MRC Factotum" user my username to the left of this post as an example.
To make changes to your profile, hover over the “Profile†link at the top of the page, then select “Forum Profile†to see what you can add and modify. Personalise your profile to make it easy for people to link to your Social Media page and the like. Click on the buttons below “My Links:†over on the left-hand side, below my avatar to see how this works.
Thanks Malcolm,
A couple of quick questions:
What do we put in for Facebook? It says user name but that won't be unique?
How do I remove MSN Messenger? It's appearing on my posts but I can't see it in my profile and it has a really old address I don't use anymore.
You were only a "space away" Ann :)
Users just need to go to their FB home page and note what appears after www.facebook.com/ in the url address bar (typically their name, but if mot unique, may have some numbers) - just copy and paste that into the user profile and that's it, simples. In your case it was "annhowlett", you'd typed into your profile "Ann Howlett", so just the space away :)
I've fixed yours now ;)
MSN link fixed for you Ann :)
If anyone else finds an "errant" MSN link then the reason is (I think) that the conversion from the old forum to the new one took this information from the old user profile and automatically placed it into new one. BUT, the new forum is configured (by default) NOT to display MSN settings in the user profile, so it's hidden. and so the converted MSN data can't be changed by the user. However, as an Admin, the MSN facilty can be turned on to reveal the MSN details in a user profile, where they can be deleted or edited. Having done that, I turned MSN back off...
I never used MSN, but I believe it's now defunct, as Microsoft bought Skype and rolled MSN functionality onto the Skype platform? However, I could be wrong, if MSN is still used, I can switch MSN back "on" so users can add the button and edit their MSN details
This is a bit off topic but could we get some direct link to page that can pack photos to smaller size. I thought that it can be done in photobucket but I quess I was wrong. I´n not good with computers so I´m always fighting with that problem.
Thanks Malcolm (need thumbs up smilie ;))
Yeah I think I got in first to get my name on Facebook - bit of a pain if I need to change it though. ;) ;)
I'll have to ask Mr Microsoft about MSN - I've certainly not used it for a number of years.
I've checked and MSN (replaced by Windows Live) is no more. I spent hours on that back in the pre-social media days.
What is the Karma score thingy???
It's a way to say either "TY" to members who have been helpful (+1 Karma) or "FO" to members who have been useless (-1 Karma).
I guess it's just a silly thing that came with the forum. Harmless enough.
Gosh, your karma is looking good there Grant ;) :)
I'm actually shocked my karma isn't maxed out TBH as I'm always helpful
Just experimented to find the max ;)
Thanks, won't stay that high for long!!
Just checking the negative karma system works too Grant :13: :0012394:
Thanks.....

damned bullies
I cant get my facebook and youtube link to work :)
Anyways, just noticed that my private mail inbox is empty??? There is some messages in sent messages though...
Weird...
Hi Jarno - fixed both FB and YT links so they work now.
For anyone else struggling with this, simply use a BROWSER to login to FB and then YT. Simply COPY the account name that appears after xxx.com/.... into your relevant profile "boxes" for FB andthen YT and it should work. It's important only your account name is used (+"channel/... if you want to link to your YT channel) and NOT any "http://..." stuff that comes before it.
Jarno, have another look at your PM inbox. PM's work a little differently on here than the previous forum and it caught me out at first. If still having difficult, post back on here and I'll give some pointers - have to go out now.... :)
Thank you, sir :)
Um, did you made some changes few days ago? That "unread post" button is in different place...
Anyways, seems that after that update, it doesent work. If I hit that button, it says that there is no unread post. But if I hit "recent post" there is alot of post that I havent read...
Japi
Yes we tidied up the header section. I have a thing for too many words in tight places, the non-essential ones had to go. :s_bye2:
It's been pointed out that the very helpful "member location" information did not transfer across form the old to the new forum. It would be useful if everyone would take a few seconds to add this information back into their profile, so it shows over on the left - have a look at mine ; "Colchester, Essex".
To do this, "hover" your pointer over "Profile" on the grey bar above, then select "Forum Profile" when it appears. Simply complete the "Location" box and clcik on "Save Profile" at the bottom of the screen. All done :)
Any idea why on the left there it shows both 'San Francisco, CA' and Oakland, CA?
I checked settings and it doesn't say San Francisco in my profile anywhere :dontknow:
Hello
I have updated your profile for you if it still wrong, please let me know.
Shows SF twice now instead of Oakland.
Not a big deal really. Thanks anyway.
I think I can see what is happening with "locations". When the forum was first set up there was no display of location in the user profile, so a "custom mod" was added to request location on user registration, which displays at the top as "Location: xxxxxxx". Subsequent upgrades to the forum software now allow a user to add/change their location in their profile, and this displays at the bottom of the profile.
Unfortunately, I can't see a way of edited the original custom entry! I can turn that display off, but this would mean no location display for 99% of users as this is a required field when people register on the forum.
So, apologies, no easy fix I can see for this at the moment. There must be a way, but not yet able to see how............ :(
Casey,
It's not a problem really. thanks for looking though!
