Title: Bonnet Repair
Post by: Gman on August 09, 2004, 08:07:44 AM
Was going to change my FC bonnet because it is a bit shabby and I thought it was a standard bonnet, but it turns out to be an Aluminium bonnet - yay.  Only realised when i met up with Jason in his tII and tried to lift his bonnet christ they are heavy!!!

Anyway to cut to the chase I need to get it sanded resprayed, and a couple of dents/bent bits sorted.  Any ideas on the best place to take it that won\'t cost a small fortune??  I was thing a standard coachworks but they might be a lot of £££££££.

If its just the bonnet mate (Mines Ally too :D ) then you may as well find a decent one in your area.  Phone up a few local garges and find out which one they use, that way you know it wont be a bad setup.

Graham,
All TII bonets should be ali,  i know a place in chelmsford called Shepherd Motors,  i have know them for a long tme and they have done bodywork on all my Rex\'s,  the last being the vents in my 3rd gen which was a bitch of a job, but he did an excellent job.  He also resprayed my elford 1st Gen which still looks great!.
He doesnt like doing full cars anymore but a bonnet will be no problem.
regards
Tony

that\'s why if a vert is ever being broken, the bonnet\'s the first thing to go! the coupe has a bonnet made of a substance almost as dense as a black hole! (In fact before I changed the bonnet on mine, I could see light bending into the bonnet, it was so heavy!) still, makes a good paperweight!

it seems a popular thing to change brett - so it could have been done before you bought it

does any one know the weight of the 2 bonnets - just to see the actual difference in them ?

apparently the vert bonnet is about half the weight of the coupe ones, i thought the coupe one was just a denser ali alloy,

anyone breaking a white vert?????? :wave

The ali hood was standard on the vert due to the extra weight in the chassis, but it was an optional extra for the coupe.

I\'ve been reading books you see!:wiggle
