As title, I went to start the fd this morning and nothing so the battery is dead then I went to jump start it and I turn the key and nothing just a clicking sound I\'m worried that I\'ve done something wrong, it\'s bog standard and it was working fine until the battery died any help. The battery doesn\'t hold a charge
New battery time pal
I was thinking that I\'ve just never had a battery so dead it wouldn\'t jump lol.
It\'s completely dead, new time. If that doesn\'t work then you might have a sticking solenoid.
Got a new battery and it still doesn\'t I\'m thinking the starter motor lol anyone change one before ?where is it.
Lh side of gearbox 2 securing bolts and 1 electrical nut. 1 elec connector on solenoid easy peasy...disconnect battery first.
okay thanks and is there a way for testing these or to fix them?
Undo the starter pull it out and then refit.
The reason I say this because at times if the battery only has a little bit of power the starter will throw in and the gear will jam, this means the starter will just click until you get it to disengage.
The other thing to try is to put the car in gear as this sometimes also disengages a stuck starter
Hope this helps
This is all good stuff guys, thank you I will try this before I get a replacement. This is what I like about this club it\'s friendly and Knowledgeable:) keep you posted, it was going to have a mot but wouldn\'t start lol and I\'ve rebooked it for Saturday hoping to get it fix by then lol.
turns out that it was a loose wire it seems to work now after ive tightened it lol hope its fixed.
Excellent news :Thumbs-up
