Title: 245/45 R16s on standard rims
Post by: fro on August 08, 2004, 10:39:25 PM
I know 245/45 R16s will fit on a standard FD rim but...
Is this size large for a 8" rim? Is it going to be bulgey side wall sloppy nastiness?

I\'m thinking of doing the same - I need some new tyres and there seems to be more choice in this size.

A quick search on the web shows that 225/50 x 16 is generally specified for 6 to 8" rims.

245/45 x 16 is generally for 7.5 to 9", but yokahama specify 8 as minimum

See:

http://www.sportscartire.com/tire_specifications/specs_bfgoogrich_gforce_kdw_1.htm

or  http://www.scirocco.org/tires/

These specs appear to vary between manuafactures.

Are you thinking bigger tyres front and back?

Anyone know if these will rub anywhere, or what the effect is on handling?

Yeah I was thinking 245s on the front and rear... I\'m pretty sure they\'d fit without any clearance problems.

I think im going to go to 225\'s all round, on 9 inch rims.  Not sure really, depends what tyres I can get hold of.

Me too, same size front and back.

Do later spec RX7s with wider wheels on the back understeer?

Yes.  The only reason I would go 18s is if I needed to because the brakes wouldnt fit under 17\'s (or I find a cheap set lol).

I have pretty new 235\'s on the front though, probably better to get the same on the rear as otherwise im going to have to change all 4 and I dont want to do that.
