currently using A 747.....but get 5 times as much for the comma stuff....both low ash
what ya reckon?
Hi Jon the castrol 747 when it burns it smells sweeter I have been told that\'s why the rotary boys use it.
I some times use shell 2 stroke that smells like burnt oil
Me and Aston now use royal purple but bit more expensive.
We like to look after our rotary engines.
Check Essexrotary.co.uk. I think its on his web site.
I can\'t comment on any cheaper makes not used any.
just been doing some research.....Royal Purple is completely ashless! Ill check out Astons site!
protekr is another option
:Thumbsup! very impressive site! and great with the knowledge section.
Just stumbled across this. I am thinking of running premix on my 20B conversion as I cannot get OMP control via my ECU and a standalone controller is quite pricey and I am a little worried about reliability on that. Can you give me some first hand advice and experiences running premix? What ratio are you mixing too? There seems to be a wide range of answers on forums!
Cheers
Lee
Theres good info on the essex rotary site. But you need a ratio for premix only which i dont know the answer....prob best phoning one of specialist. Or suspect somebody will be along soon on here.
Oh.. Are you running premix as well as stock Omp? Or through a Reservoir on the stock Omp? I will find the answer. I had a ratio already. Was looking for a comparison. Don\'t want to crash your thread.
Cheers
Lee
No worries mate....im running premix as well as omp. Just some extra insurance.
In your scenario your gonna defo gonna need the right ratio...but at 17 quid a litre i was looking at alternatives. Hence the comma stuff.
Prob gonna use same amount as you as got 4 rotarys to supply for!
4 rotaries! Gluten for punishment.. Do you really need premix if you still have the Omp working?
I think I found another one that was around the Comma price as well.. Otherwise it would start getting quite pricey!
Yeah mine the wifes the nieghbours and the race car!
Been doing alot of research on the classifications of the oils!
3 series 1 rx8 engines known to not feed oil to centre of apex seal and 1 r3 and jury still out on it!
Using a747 at mo in 1litre bottles. Want to buy in 5 litre and save that way....
This any good to you?

One thing I found reading around on this is people only seem to recommend using synthetic??
Look slike the cheaper options are always mineral? The above one does not state so I assume it is mineral?
Done a shed load of reading and confused the hell out of myself!
sticking with A747 at mo ! til stocks run out. If i can find in 5 litres then prob stick with this and save that way.
It\'s a tough call when you read so much different stuff! I found another one for £30 and 5 litres.. Think it was on ebay. Will have to find it again now! I think it seems like a good reasonable price from what I can find.
Well i ended up in a 2 stroke performance motorcycle forum and will be sticking with A747.
The cheaper end of the market fouls the plugs and ceased solid some of the motors.....its cost alot for a reason!
Whats everyone using just outta interest?
Royal Purple TCWIII here but then again I would be.
idemitsu..........
Is that a plain engine oil or a 2 stroke oil Ed?
I found another product by Exol today
that looks okay. Will try and find some more info on it.
It\'s a specific premix....... It\'s what they used in the Mazda 24 hr LeMan car.
If it\'s good enough for them then it\'s good enough for me.
I\'m having difficulty with ratios also...... When I do the recommended 100/1 ... It\'s Amos too much.... So I\'m just trying to find a medium ATM.
I have no omp btw
where do you get that from, never seen advertised over here?
i got mine from america.... hard to get over here....due to shipping... and being flammable etc i think.... there is a dealer in germany though....i\'ll try and find the website.

Cool! just hard a mooch around the website! Greece got there rotary thing going on!
£1 to 1.27E at the mo not bad either....shipping will kill it though!
Think i might get some for the race engine though! added 787B to tank!
Guy\'s I have been doing some research on the EXOL stuff and it seems to have very good reviews generally. It is UK made apparently. Think I am going to try some.. You can buy it in bulk too I think!

Good range.. I message them and see what the say although I guess I will be going for the fully synth race stuff!
Ed, What do you mean it Amos too much?? Smokes? I read a lot and it seems like 100:1 is the recommended amount. Some say down to 120:1 and other people are running race and drag runs at 90:1.
Hope that helps.
Cheers
Lee
Yes sorry... Phone correction....... Yes I think 100:1 is too much...... Read on easytuning ratio recommend ed is 2ml for every litre.....So I will double that and see how it goes
I will be starting at 100:1 for sure.. Most seem to run that from what I can see. Would be interested to hear what you find.. Are you sure that\'s 2ml per litre? Maybe you could drop in that is for cars With Omp?
Cheers
Lee
Yes, that\'s the same as what Pettit recommend for protek..... But I will double it s I have no one.
For comparison I used protek r on my last engine .. ... When I stripped it down for a rebuild (it didn\'t need one)... The exhaust ports were so clogged up with gunk. So I\'m gonna make sure I try and get the mix right and keep checking for smokiness until I get it right for my setup.
I Will start with 100:1 and work back from there. I am running a 20B which might make a difference? Shouldn\'t as it\'s all down to how much fuel is getting used!
Keep us updated with your findings.
Cheers

This the stuff Lee?
Its got all the accreditation!
I have no OMP and just use a branded 2 stroke at 100:1, I\'ve used shells own, castrol etc and I\'ve never had any issues and it certainly gets some stick so 100:1 is fine I think.
That\'s the stuff..
I got mine the other week. Not stuck it in yet as I am doing other jobs on the car at present!
Najiru.. Do you get any plume or smoke at low load/idle with that mix ratio?
No, nothing visible in terms of plume etc

Well still doing my research and read up a lot of oil specification.
Api and Jaso are the 2 main accreditation boards and FD is the highest jaso acred. The valvoline stuff above is FB!
ive searched the other accreditations and RP a747 etc cant find the accreditation on the RP but can on the A747. Jaso FD. Idemetsu is jaso FC.
That exol stuff is Jaso FD...so according to net its the up there with the best .

I got 5 litres of the EXOL stuff on its way! ....ill try in the neighbours first:mmmm:evillaugh:Laugh
I\'m new to all this but to ask, what situation would you see it fit to remove the OMP completely and use pre-mix instead? Someone previously mentioned ECU control so would that mean you could use an aftermarket ECU to better control the amount of oil used via the OMP?
Tell me if I\'m talking absolute Horlicks :D
I don\'t know that there is a point you see fit to remove the factory OMP. In my case the aftermarket ECU cannot control the OMP so I either have to premix oil in the fuel or get a stand alone controller. At least with pre-mix you know exactly what you are getting.
Other people choose to run separate oil tanks in conjunction with the OMP so you are injecting clean oil instead of dirty sump oil.
Hope that helps.
