Both me and Matt nearly torched it a few times! Basic fault was car was immobilised. And this was not realised by guy doing conversion i think and then some added faults trying to fix afterwards 1 injector unplugged etc and rear housing was only 1 getting fuel. Still need to verify 100% that plugs are on right injectors for hi power and secondary.
The throttle response on fly by wire needs looking at further.

Didnt realise that this model mx5 nearly became rotary powered and shares same chassis platform as rx8.

This car has the 8 front subframe and engine fits perfect and gearbox lever sits in original position.

theres still loads todo on it and i expect ill be involved again! Matt\'s offered me a go on track once done which is motivation enough!

Car picked today and been ragged around an airfield and all seems fine now. Result a Mk3 rx8mx5 in the UK!

i need abit of help from you race guys/trackers on oil usage the car will be coming into the pits every hour for fuel. so will neeed topping up with oil but whats usage gonna be like and any recommendations for how much how often?
Title: mx5 mk3 rx8....running after 12 hours!
Post by: Casey on November 03, 2014, 10:38:12 PM
A hour on track is about the same as a morning on a trackday (4x 15minute sessions). In that time I\'d expect to top up with (very approximately) a half litre, or slightly less than that. If the oil starts at ~3/4 on the dipstick, to avoid oil being blown back into intake, then a top up of around 1/2 litre every hour should be fine. Engine temperature management will clearly be crucial if running endurance.

Cheers Casey. Will pass info on...

Hopefully cooling ok theres been no time for them to test....But it has a combined rad oil cooler by Radtec ....its mahosive so fingers crossed.

Just heard from Matt...theyve made it to Anglesey and are testing now!...Got some heat management issues.....oil getting to hot so advised to plumb in a 2nd oil cooler as demon Tweeks not to far away!....

9 hour endurance race this sunday if anybody local....should be awesome to watch and hear!
Title: mx5 mk3 rx8....running after 12 hours!
Post by: Casey on November 07, 2014, 12:10:59 PM
Yep, I feared they might run into heat management issues. Let\'s hope the 2nd oil cooler will do the job.

I hope someone can get to the race on Sunday and take some pics and video.

Title: mx5 mk3 rx8....running after 12 hours!
Post by: boosted on November 08, 2014, 08:23:49 AM
Its on Matts todo list.
was a school track car with 2.0 duratec or duratorq init.
So cage been added .
But fibre glass bonnet and doors. Roof removed. Ac egr and airpump gone.
No ew cl etc.
front and rear rx8 subframes fitted along with 8 ppf...with 14" cut out.
Its also had a 4.7 cwp made for the s1 diff.Bum dyno it felt rapid and planted.

Ok, some things has be done allready. :) Just looked so stock.

Was is hard to fit rx8 subframes on it? Cause I remembered Steve saying that there are not much difference between those two models.

Does he need s3 lump with 5,125 and lsd? ;)
Title: mx5 mk3 rx8....running after 12 hours!
Post by: boosted on November 08, 2014, 12:16:42 PM
Subframes just bolted in relatively straight forward. the power plant frame tieing the diff to the gearbox just needed shortening.

It looks a straight forward job...this 1 was complicated because the donor was bought salvage and immobilsed....and not realised.

thing is if you thought about it you could reverse engineer it back and put the 2.0 duratec/torq engine in an 8!

Flame proof underwear on! but here goes....

seriously though literally buy 2 cars 1 rx8 1 mx5 mk3. swap engines and boxes. looms etc still left with 2 cars at the end! get the 2.0 sport mk3 though.

not heard from Matt today but found the timing website and does not look good...case of flyin and dying...some quick laps followed by slow laps and pitwork.

dunno if they fitted that 2nd oil cooler as advised but summit up.

its burnt out 2 fuel pumps in 8 hours those flames ignited some spilt fuel in the boot and caused a flash over whilst out on track....all 4 drivers loved it!
Title: mx5 mk3 rx8....running after 12 hours!
Post by: re japi on November 13, 2014, 04:15:37 AM
2 fuel pumps?  Do you know why?
Title: mx5 mk3 rx8....running after 12 hours!
Post by: boosted on November 13, 2014, 09:03:51 AM
Not 100% but sucking air me thinks fuel surge. I modded to 12v only running. Matt fitted a swirlpot after. They where loosing pressure after 10 laps. So i think pump over heating. Also fpr fitted on the bulkhead set at 4.2 bar as per mazda manual. Dont know tbh. Its getting a new tank and redesign.
