Title: Rototorstock thanks for those who attended the last Rotorstock
Post by: clive on August 03, 2014, 09:48:50 AM
HUGE thanks to all of you who attended despite the horrible weather with special thanks to Japi and his wife and daughter who flew in from Finland to be with us.

Between you all, you showed excellent examples of most of our Rotary models from beautiful standard cars through to modified and even James Wildays record holding 8 second quarter mile RX-7 race/ road car. Plus we had three amazing Rotary bikes turn up and we even got our bikers involved by getting them to pick our winners of the show.

You will see our winners pictured below.:Thumbsup!

We are very sorry not only about the weather but also the fact that the big classic car show that would have given people lots of things to look at did not happen---------- nobody told us they were condensing the event down to the Sunday :3Confused

Rotorstock was devised for all of the Rotary community for the celebration, appreciation and promotion of our wonderful Mazda Rotary\'s however with the decline of numbers in older RX-7\'s etc and only the real real fans of RX-8\'s having interest to attend, leading to lack of support for this event, the time has come to end the Rotorstock story which over the years has served a big purpose in helping people to take the brilliant Rotary engine under the bonnets of all RX\'s seriously with many converts.

Enormous thanks go to all who have helped and supported the event over the last 11 years, thank you :WaveBye

I must say I love Rotorstock. But with all the hard work Lisa and yourself put in to it. For the community to show so little support. I must say I really don\'t think we actually deserve to have this event. It hurts to say but it seems that there is lots of talk but bot many wheels on the grouns when it comes to show time.
I commend both Lisa and Clive for trying something different. But it still needs the fupport of a community. A community that seems to have factions within that are set on killing an event that is not about MRC or about Lisa and Clive\'s (ego\'s as some would have you believe) but is meant to be about the cars and the owners.
I must say it is seriously disappointing to see so fe specialists bringing their cars along to show support. It would have been nice to see for one day a year them put work aside to put on a show (all be it static this year) of what can be done to these cars.
I really do hope that we have not seen the end of Rotorstock but I doubt that it will be back unless so,etching serious can change in the community.

i will hold my hand up here , i had been watching the weather over the last week , and up to Wednesday i was going to come

The weather then took a turn for the worse , and at a over 300 mile round trip i just couldn\'t justify the petrol costs to stand in the rain for a day

I had noticed that there was non of the usual convoy threads this year as well

Maybe the running costs of these cars is starting to hit people in the wallet , hence the low turn out

Im sorry to see that this was the last RS

Thanks

Weather was a factor for me ( although i went) it was bucketing down in Wiltshire proper high speed wiper action and doing 35 mph on the m4. We nearly called it quits and turned around but glad i went my first Rotorstock and nice to put some names to faces. Ever though a poor turnout what was there was quality ! I loved the Elford turbo and defo want 1! The bikes where a added bonus as being an ex biker and they where mint condition and sound awesome...i got a short running clip if anybody wants to hear it?
I met Re-Japi for the first time and his enthusiasm for Rotaries is amazing and flying in for a show is tantamount for that!lol.
Me and the misses had a great day and never seen it before but she proper loves her R3! I was passenger there and back! doh!

I loved the drag car seeing it leave with the parachute on the back was awesome and again ( soz forgot your name) the owner bubbling with enthusiasm is infectious!

so Great cars great people chatted with most of you pls. Dont make this be my first and last!

Well me the misses and pup had a great day out, yes we got a little wet (but who didn\'t). It is always nice to meet new people and talk about the things we love, however there is never enough time to talk to everyone. Really sad to hear this is the last one as we have great memories of Rotorstock from my first one I attended (Rotorstock 5 where I saw the FD I would end up buying a couple of month later), and a few years later the one where we got married.

Looking at the turnout I can understand why as it must take up a fair amount if time to organise to end up with such a small turnout.

Thanks for all the good times and lets hope it can come back at some point in the future!

Unfortunately CrissyUK and I headed off for a spot of lunch, that tool longet then expected at over an hour for our food to arrive. Luckily we missed the downpour but by the time we got back a lot had packed up and left.
I know running costs are a factor but we took two car, my RX8 and our TurboII, this was an event that really needed the support to keep it alive.
I see mumbelings on FDUK of people saying there was nothing to do at billing so it didn\'t appeal and they didn\'t go however I noted that Era (oldone) did make a positive comment sayiing that he has noticed the lack of rotaries going down the strip these days so billing seemed fitting (not his exact words)
It is hard to see a way forward for Rotorstock (if there was to be another) when numbers where so low it kind of discourages Lisa and Clive from trying again.
It seems with it backing on to USC the next day at the pod, some have chosen to go there today instead of billing the day before.

I have to admit , if i was clive and lisa i think i would be calling it quits on RS

over the years i have seen the numbers get smaller and smaller

I think i have done about 6 or 7 of them , and every year there seems to be less an less ( although i dont know if this is true or not )

I can remember the 1st one at shakespear ( not sure if its spelt like that ! LOL ) and having fun on the strip :)

To me its usually the distance that gets me every year .. but i suppose they have to hold them reasonably central to the UK

I reckon it would have cost me about £150 for a day out .. and the better half pointed out that for that price would could probably take the kids to Alton Towers and stay over for the the evening

I reckon if the weather had of held it would have been a better turn out .. but thats something that we cant be 100% certain of

I bet clive and lisa thought they had cracked it this year .. i reckon we must have had a good month of glorious weather and then it all changed in a few days .. it must be like a wedding .. you book your day and hope for the best :)

Well iv made every Rotorstock since Rotorstock 3 and iv enjoyed everyone of them :)
The 250 mile round trip in the RX3 and rain was exciting to say the least but always well worth the journey.
Ill be sorry to see Rotorstock fade away, as me and Michelle have enjoyed everyone we have attended.
Thank you Clive and Lisa for all the effort you have put in over the years.

Title: Rototorstock thanks for those who attended the last Rotorstock
Post by: clive on August 03, 2014, 07:58:25 PM
At the end of the day we have always put this event on for all the Rotary community regardless of club or even if people were not in a club, those who know us properly will know it\'s never been for any personal reasons other than stated in the first post on this thread.

Leading up to this year (and last year) there had been very little interest in Rotorstock, no the weather did not help but I am certain this actually made very little difference because if people are really enthusiasm for something they will go regardless of weather predictions also taking into account previous Rotorstocks where weather has mostly been bad anyway.

Another big factor is the numbers of older Rotarys is dwindling, indeed somebody said there are only 200 and something FD\'s on the road now, but when Rotorstock started I put the figure at 1,000 plus easily,

Yes, there\'s lots of RX-8\'s but as said above proportionately very few of the RX-8 guys actually have a full blown interest in what powers there RX-8 down the road and even fewer actually attend events, especially when you consider there are currently 17,000 RX-8\'s currently on the road!

Regardless of what people think, as said above we have always put this event on for the Rotary community, not for Lisa and myself personally and now with apathy for two years running the general Rotary community clearly has no interest in a collective celebration for our Rotarys each year any more so it\'s now time to end the event and consign it to history.

Over the years despite the rubbish people have thrown at the event and us personally, we know many many people have enjoyed Rotorstock in the the past and to us that\'s all that\'s ever mattered, indeed to us on a brighter note the constant nasty Rotorstock detractors who have always tried to kick this event to bits will now have to find something else to throw stones at :rollin

To me Rotorstock has served its purpose because 11 years ago very few took the Rotary seriously ---------many do now, in fact it was quite fitting that James Wildays 8 second  car was there for the last one because from memory at Rotorstock one I think the fastest Rotary only managed 11\'s, like I said now the Rotary is taken seriously :3gears-lh

I have also been to every Rotorstock since Rotorstock 3 in 2006 although I appreciate we only live up the road in Milton Keynes.

Yesterday\'s turnout was disapointing, yes the weather forecast wasn\'t great but we\'ve had far worse. It will be a shame if that\'s the last one but I do understand why - it\'s not fair on Lisa and Clive to put in all that effort to organise if people aren\'t going to come.

Anyway we did have a great time and here are some piccies:https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/100088644024501606351/albums/6043430931760524465?cfem=1

My first rotor stock also took five hours to get there with the wife and two small kids but I think well worth the trip. The wife stood in the pouring down rain with our six month old under her coat while we chatted to the feed addict and his wife, two crazy car nuts. I would be happy to go to a small meeting in billing again the classic show picked up on Sunday with lots of car stands for different makes so I think a Mrc stand would be a good edition to there show. Went to the pod today and my god what a :censored::censored::censored::censored:e hole rubbish everywhere beer cans and food wrappers all over only stayed a short while and seen one rx7. Actually seen two 7\'s going into billing on our way out. Thanks to those who attended and showed my wife why I love these cars, she is now looking for a pram to fit in an 8.
Cheers rob

I´m back home again :( First, thanks Clive and Lisa for organizing event. And I want to thank everybody in UK for their hospitality. (and apologize my english ;)

Weather, we just cant choose it. And as I was saying, we came to Uk to cool down ;) And it didnt bother me. And I didnt see mr and mrs feed complaining ;)

For me, Rotorstock isnt a car show. Its place to learn, see amazing people with stunning rotarys, make contacts and new friends. But once again, so little time, so much to talk about. It really was awesome to finally meet people like boosted, casey, mr and mrs feed, James and other great people. And that dude with those stunning bikes! And it was really nice to talk again with old friends too...

As for that "main event", those organizers did a dirty thing. They cant just change the date if they wants to! Besides, I dont want to see some crap old v8´s, I can see them enough in back home! ;)

As for Rotorstock, I have plenty of room for more "souvenirs" in my body :D

This is the first rotorstock I didn\'t come to in all the 11 years it has been on. Unfortunately my car still is off the road and the weather looked terrible.

The trouble is the community is getting smaller too. I was at Tatton Park with the VW show on the sunday and it was massive with mainly NW VW\'s and there where thousands of people there. Something we could just dream about. Even got sun burnt !

Yes i have great memories of Rotorstock, won a trophy myself of being the fastest at one of them.

Myself I never really go to static events, but I have attended all Rotorstock events since its inception bar this year

The fact is Japanese owners in general have gone off drag racing and track racing their own cars, partly due to costs, the culture to drive them hard on track has diminished.

Take Japshow this year for example, FDUK had a huge turnout...very few took them up the strip, even the other car clubs didnt really take their cars out on the strip, plus it was quietest as a whole that Japshow has been for years!

Put simply you need younger people to come into the Japanese car culture to keep it going but sadly youngsters cant afford these Japanese cars anymore, costs have risen, so they stick to the much cheaper Euro makes to modify, hence why VW and Ford shows are massive.

Youngsters in general are having a hard time, I remember the local bars and clubs were bristling wityh young people, now the bars are clubs are slowly shutting, they simply cant afford to go out.

Their is no solution until the economy and cost of living changes..so for the time being RIP Japanese car culture

Well, despite the weather I had a great time admiring the cars (and bikes!) and chatting to like minded rotary enthusiasts. We may not have had a huge turnout, but the range and quality on display was excellent. Lots of familiar faces and great to meet some new ones too. Good to meet for the first time; re-japi (your english is VERY good btw!), plus his wife and daughter, James Wilday, Feed addict (plus "his misses" and dog :)), noop (with his recently acquired 7), Elektix, and a few others too. The enthusiasm for their cars (and bikes!) from everyone I spoke to was great to experience and share.

Thanks again to Clive and Lisa for organising this event, and all the Rotorstocks to date, most of which I\'ve attended since turning up to help setup for RS3 in a wet and muddy field in 2006 :Laugh. Sorry to hear it will be the last, but I fully understand that, with dwindling attendances, it is inevitable.

Was a rather wet day but was good fun despite it. Sadly we weren\'t able to stay that long (due to a rather wet wife lol who was suffering a bit). We deffently make it again but plan a bit better, it was a bit of a last second deceision this year and we could have made a weekend of it.

Managed to put on 420 miles on the engine putting it over 1k, so not long till fun time :)

Just like to add my thanks to Clive and Lisa for RS11 and previous RS events over the years.
As I said to Clive when I arrived on Saturday, come rain or shine, I will always go to RS as it has always been the best place to not only see awesome rotarys, but to learn about them face to face with you guys. Something that is slightly missing when reading techy write-ups on forums, no passion!
I do think that RS events did play a big part in making me want a rotary originally. Quite incredible the effect of seeing a car "in the metal" so to speak.
Thanks also to those who went on Saturday, great to see your cars and to chat.
Arnie O- still loving the Fc, great motivation for mine.
Mr Foggy- always enjoy a chat.
Daston- love the car, and to talk to a new owner.
Clive- the bumper looked even better after I got home.

Long live Rotorstock! :WaveBye

I just wanted to also say a huge thank you to Clive and Lisa for organizing the last Rotorstock and for staying positive throughout the day despite the weather and the turnout.

From experience from running my own Club for the past 12 years sometimes the only thing that Club members have in common is the fact that they own similar vehicles and therefore don\'t necessarily feel the need to socialize or celebrate the one thing that brought them together in the first place, even if just in cyberspace. So it\'s not surprising that over time, as a community shrinks and perhaps the more active members move on to pastures new (splinter clubs), there are less people showing up at events.

I think it also doesn\'t help the fact that rotaries are currently not in production and perhaps there will be a resurgence in interest if and when the new RX7 ever makes it into the real world. Then maybe there will be a collective desire to bring back Rotorstock to showcase the evolution of the Mazda Rotaries from their inception to the present day.

Who knows? In the meantime we can only work with what we have and make the most of it.

For me one of the positives from Saturday was the fact the Noop was a relatively new FD owner. I choose to give it the meaning that the rotary scene in the UK isn\'t dead, just more exclusive and for the discerning and elusive driver who likes something out of the ordinary  ;-)

The other positive was catching up with people that I hadn\'t seen in a while as well as meeting some for the first time. It\'s always lovely. Unfortunately the slowest waiters in the world meant that Aston and I spent most of the afternoon waiting for our food and missed out on the opportunity to talk to everyone who was there. Apologies for that and hopefully we\'ll correct this the next time we all happen to be in the same place again.

Until then...  I\'ll be seen (online) but nor heard.  :Typing

Sadly I couldn\'t make it - but I think with the economy the way it is many people are taking a long hard look at what they travel to etc.

I wonder if there is more scope to run this sort of event every other year or something?

I\'m sorry I didn\'t make it, Rotorstock has always been good fun.  Unfortunately my rotary is off the road still and I had other commitments this weekend.  I do agree with Clive about the unfortunate nature of a lot of the RX8 owning community though and their lack of track use be it drag or circuit.

I do understand that nowadays money is the issue. And as you said, lack of cars. But its really sad to see RotorStock end, even though I have been only two of them. I was hoping to come few more. I talked to Lisa about the future of these events. Hopefully RS will continue, in some format.

Clive and Lisa has put huge amount time and effort to this. So thank you. As few of you said, we dont deserve it,just because of our actions(or lack of them).

But same thing is happening here in Finland too. Lack of spectators and people to attend in different events. Really hard to get people to attend...

Btw Crissy, I really enjoyed to chat with you. :)

And I talked to few people about my and my brothers projects. Please go take a look and share your opinions and thoughts. :) they are here in MRC called "finnish race car project" and "new life for 12a". We are basically newbies in rotary scene so every comment and thought is much appresiated ;)

Oh, and Mrs. Feed, looking forward to see you wooping boys arses with your beast ;)

Until we meet again

Firstly sorry I couldn\'t support Rotorstock this year by attending, I have been to most (if not all?) of the previous Rotorstock events.  It is very sad if this year\'s is the last one, maybe Rotorstock can be resurrected for the 50th anniversary of the first Mazda rotary, the Cosmo/110S, in 2017?

I\'m sad to hear that this was the last Rotorstock. And sorry I couldn\'t make it but I managed to break my wrist so i\'m hoping i\'ll be forgiven. Driving the RX4 is kinda out atm.

Car culture is a funny old thing. I\'ve chatted to Clive about it but I used to do RX7 club stuff back in the pre-internet days (feeling old now!) and I was definitely in a minority for wanting to get my RX7 on track or talk about what the engine could achieve. But that was many years ago and over that time the culture did change, more rotaries got on track, prejudice against them became less and more people wanted to own one, maybe it\'s peaked for now but don\'t lose heart, the culture will shift again soon and a new and exciting era will dawn instead.

Thanks to Clive and Lisa for everything they have done over the years, there\'s a lot that\'s been achieved thanks to them.

Many thanks for the "thank you" posts, it is appreciated, however it\'s Rotary enthusiasts like the people on this thread who made all the previous Rotorstocks happen and showed people your great cars, not us, as we have seen over the last two years without many people like you Rotorstock would never have happened in the first place.

Looking forward, if Rotarystock in the  Netherlands happens again next year we already have people who want to go there, so this would mean something proper Rotary would at least happen.

Also many thanks for Clive and Lisa from us in the Netherlands, I was also attending Rotorstock from the beginning, and also had to travel one way for more then 5 hours. But we never missed one. This time I also ordered tickets, but unfortunally the police took my drivers license for speeding. So it was the first time I couldn\'t come over. I would have taken with me, this year, yet another special car, an RX-3 which could have stand next to Steve\'s Rx-3.
I always had some special cars during rotorstock such as my FD kazama, the green RX-7 with trailer, or RX-8 4-rotor, red Eunos cosmo 20B, FC very low convertible and several other rotarys.

Maybe some of you will come over for Rotarystock 2015, this is now every 2 years, so people won\'t get bored with attending every year the same show.

Hopefully lateron, there will be more interest for a new UK event maybe 2016?

So thanks for all those wonderful Rotorstocks

Right it\'s simple  rebuild costs need to be reduced  and running costs people are not going to stay for long when they are spending loads of money on something which spends more time on the driveway to house spiders  and only comes out a few times a year lol,  you don\'t get none of this nonsense at ford and vw meets lol:Giggle

Hi Domanic,

Real sorry but there's no Rotorstock this year because we couldn't get all those people with their wonderful Rotarys to come out to play over the last couple of years , so it died , no cars means no event. :(

Shame as Rotorstock was designed to promote our great cars to other people as well as a chance for our own owners to meet like minded people.

There will be events the club will attend over the coming year with one main event, The Mazda Nationals at Gaydon where everyone can showcase their cars in a nice setting to the rest of the Mazda world
