Hello,

I\'m new to this forum but not new to rotaries having had my first rotary Norton from new in 1989 which I still have.

As yet, I dont have a rotary car but I keep on thinking about it. Trouble is, I don\'t know what to buy and I\'m not sure that I have the room for another toy.

I will be attending Rotorstock Eleven with two of my bikes on saturday and hope to meet up with a few of you members.

 Kind regards, Buller.

Welcome to MRC Buller :wave

Looking forward to seeing the Rotary bikes  at Rotorstock on Saturday.

I am  sure other members will be along shortly to assist you with the possible purchase of a Rotary car, it\'s just deciding which model you are after?

Hi!  Wow, a rotary Norton - I never knew they made those as late as \'89.  (runs off to read wikipedia) cool, you learn something new every day.

The RX-7 is the definitive rotary sports car, in all its three versions.

The 1st gen (aka SA, FB) was Mazda\'s affordable sports car, the MX-5 of its day; a small, light, straightforward, above all FUN sports car at a price people could afford.  It sold almost half a million, although sadly not that many in the UK, and they are scarce now.

The 2nd gen (FC) grew larger, more comfortable and more sophisticated, dropping the live rear axle for IRS, becoming a little heavier and gaining the option of a convertible and a turbo engine, the latter making it properly quick.

By the time the 3rd gen (FD) was under development, Mazda already had the MX-5 to fill the affordable sports car role, so the RX-7 went upmarket and became a no-compromise driving machine, with sequential twin turbos, double wishbones, and a strict weight loss regime that saw it come in slightly lighter than its predecessor.  The result was a proper sports car that stands comparison with a contemporary NSX, 911 or 348.

After the FD went out of production, Mazda were desperate to get the rotary back into production, so they cunningly designed a car that would combine great handling, practicality and an affordable price, in order to get sales numbers high enough to justify the investments.  The RX-8 has a thoroughbred FR chassis shared with the MX-5, a simplified normally aspirated rotary, and seating for four adults.

The above are the main four and the real sports cars of the bunch - there\'s also the original Cosmo, the RX-2/3/4/5 of the 70s, and the final Cosmo with the ultimate production rotary, the twin-turbocharged three-rotor 20B, all of which are rare.

Hello,

Thanks for your reply and all the information on the various RX7 models.

I know which one I like the look of but I\'m not sure what series it is, hopefully after this weekend I\'ll be a bit more up to speed with them. Sorry to seam a bit thick but motorcycles are my real interest especially if they are rotary powered.

I think I may have managed to drum up some more interest from fellow rotary bike owners and three or possibly four have said they\'ll come to Billing too.

 Regards, Buller.
