My air conn isn\'t working
Looks like the acc magnetic clutch isn\'t operating due to a popped fuse. Swapped the fuse out and it popped right away....
Any ideas before I get the multi meter out?
Is there any known issues with the compressor clutch?

Thanks... nothing mentioned about clutch blowing fuses so sounds like dodgy wiring... GREAT :2Confused:xconfused:2Mad
With ac turned off...magnet wont be engaged does it blow straight away with it turned off?

That\'s my next test once i get some replacement fuses :evillaugh
It will only pop a fuse with the ac on, current passes the fuse until it\'s switched on.
It\'s a 10a fuse, if you put a higher rated fuse in it looks to engage the clutch but no cold air comes thru.
You can turn the clutch by hand, which I assume means the compressor internals are moving?
Any ideas?
I would disconnect the plug to ac compressor (x19). Turn on ac.... fuse blows wiring or relay. If not then ac compressor. ohm resistance check of magnetic clutch. and socket where plug went into.
Page 68 of elec manual. Resistance check of magnetic coil.
I disconnected the plug and the fuse didn\'t pop.
.
Must be the clutch... I hope.
eBay is full of compressors on the cheap so will get one and try just swapping the mag clutch, if still having issues the. Will look at replacing the actual compressor and regarding :-(
Good thing about rx8\'s is parts are plentiful! no idea why!:2Rolleyes:Giggle

Yes £20 delivered for a compressor with clutch.
Going to try to have off just the clutch from the replacement item and see how easy it is without a bearing puller.
Cool. Cheap as chips. Saves regassing as well.

Let\'s hope so.
Just had her re gassed at kiwi fit which cost nothing as it didn\'t fix the problem.
That\'s a good tip for everyone.
Unplug your compressor and take your car kwik fit... Regards... Not fixed? No charge... Plug in... Boom free regass lol
I know this is pikey but after they :censored::censored::censored::censored:ed my dad over with his service the other week they can suck it :-p
Compressor has arrived, really hoping it\'s just the coil from the clutch as I wouldn\'t trust swapping the compressor :-/
yep.. clutch and magnetic coil are just held in place with one bolt for the clutch, snap ring for the bearing and circlip for the magnet.
simple bit of WD40 and a rubber mallet to tap out the bearing and magnet :-)
al done fairly quickly on the spare sat on teh bench in the garage.. now the small matter of replicating teh process with the compressor still attached to the engine :-/
Good luck...fiddly and ackward on the car no doubt! Lets hope its got some gas in the system!
Just had a go at it with the intention of rubber hammering the clutch bits off just like I did in the bench. No such fooookin luck. Even had a go at un bolting the compressor after jacking the car up and accessing the compressor bolts via the passenger wheel arch and with the compressor loose I still couldn\'t get enough swing behind it on either side.
Going to have to invest in a bearing puller and have a go tommorrow. Given up for the night with the car in lots of pieces... :-(
Puller purchased, will finish tonight / tomorrow morning :-)
Using the puller i got the old one off..
here\'s some pics to show you how screwed the electromagnet is. This may have been made worse by the testing with the 20A fuse the other day in fairness... but still... im fairly certain this was ballsed beffore hand and teh culperet of my popping fuses.
Got the replacement one on teh car and the heavens opened so now i just need to torque the compressor bolts, replace the belt and tention it up ready for a test run.
FINGERS CROSSED... i could really do with working AC right now :-(

After getting it all back together i quickly tested that the clutch was doing it\'s job without the engine running by bridging the relay and that worked perfectly and locked up.
I started the car up and the AC clutch was engaged by slipping :-(
It started to smoke and i assume melting the clutch / magnetic coil AGAIN
FML!!!
Sooo now i duno what to think.. could just be the pump being too stiff? .. or could be a blockage in the system somewhere? Either way.... it\'s no longer a 20 quid fix :(
Compressor bearings ceased by the sound of it...looks like another compressor and regass...stll cheap halfords are doing regass for 29.99.
But if the compressor has gone, where do I start with the rest of the system?
I know some Hondas suffer from what the call "Black Death" which is where fragments of the compressor spread through the whole system?
Dunno worth getting off and checking over . Could just be the bearings.

I assume internal bearing? Well at this stage I be discharging the gas anyway so may as well have it off now... Will have another play soon!
OK
SO... two more problems following some further work.
Swapped out the compressor and the internal bearing was indeed dead! Whilst the lines were off i took an air line and tried to blow thru the lines to clear any crud out. I noticed that one of the lines between the condenser and the evaporator wouldn\'t blow through? but i decided this was most likely just a valve doing it\'s job? Or maybe not? Is there a block at the evaporator maybe?
Also, the compressor clutch isn\'t engaging automatically any more when the AC is switched on :-/ If i bridge the pins on the relay the clutch works perfectly..and i tested the relay and there is a define click when current runs through it\'s coil... so wtf is up with that?
HELP AGAIN?!?!?!
Itll have valves in there and now youve discharged the gas the pressure switch will not be made so aircon will not engage. I wouldnt do any more airline blowing. Connect it back up and regass it.

Ok sounds good..
so interestingly i did take it to regas earlier today, and got told that it wasnt taking enough gas?
Now.. when i previously took it to kwikfit the guy used both teh high and low pressure outlets to perform teh bleed/flush/regas and topped it up just fine.
The guy who attempted it today only used the H (High pressure) inlet and said he was having issues. I pulled him up on it and he said "it should be fine with just the one" but he\'d give it another go with both H & L... but i had to leave due to running out of time.
Was he just doing it wrong?
YAY COLD AIR!!!!!
Took it back to Kwik Fit to get the re-gass done.. took the guy two complete cycles as it wouldn\'t take the pressure initially until he threw some more oil into the system before the 2nd run attempt to pressurize. Once that was done it gassed up to the .450kg required figure and instantly blew nice cold air.. YUM!
The car will now be a pleasure to commute in during summer!!!
Cool..wait a day before big celebration. Fingers crossed not a leak.

Owwwww...... don\'t say that!
To be fair, it should be ok. was holding pressure fine before.. and the only thing that\'s changed is the compressor has been bolted back on...
FINGERS LEGS AND EYES ARE CROSSED!!
Cool fingers crossed....cheaper to run aircon on than windows open due to drag co efficient!
still working to day? then celebration time...sods law my supra has packed up today ! regass tomoz!
Yep still nice and cool.... Sorry to rub it in hehe :-)
Thanks for all the help
sweet thanks!
