Hi guys,
At the moment i have a Supra TT, and am considering buying a RX7 for the business as a second show car :)
I have never driven one, what is performance like, handling, MPG etc....
Also, is it true they need a rebuild every 50k miles, and they run v hot????
Kindest Regards,
Chris
Hi Mate,
yep they do run very hot at times, was stood in traffic earlier and water temp jumped from 77oc - 95oC!!!
The mpg differs from each but generally you\'re looking at 18mgp on a good day.
Performance / handling more than makes up for the heating thing, as standard you\'re looking at 280bhp depending on model, which i believe is 0-60 in 5.3secs, twin turbos can manage anything up to 360bhp with mild mods, the single turbo rx7\'s will make over 400bhp.
Engine does need rebuilding, but that will be from 50k - 75k depending on how well they\'ve been treated in the past, best to buy one which has had a rebuild already.

just to add to Gurj\'s comments on rebuilds. If you;re planning this as a show car it;s probably worth noting that although engine rebuilds on rotary engines are more common than on their boinging counterparts, rebuild on a rotary can be done for as little as £1500 assuming various internal parts haven;t been destroyed. Obviously this can strecth based on parts required and any mods such as porting, but it seems a point often missed that.
Try getting a bionger rebuilt for that kind of money.
Forgot about that Sharky baby,
if you\'re looking for big power then if you require a rebuild the porting can be done there, people will argue over which is best though either street port or bridge port, but i\'m sure theres a thread on here about that somewhere???:)
not trying to extol virutes of rebuild bud.
other than an opportune time to port and suchlike, not sure there are many virtues of taking a trip to rebuild city!!!
Just thought Chris should be aware that rebuilds are more frequent on rotaries, but they are less expensive. As a commercial point more than anything else. The increased frequency offset by reduced cost.
maybe I should\'ve just said that.:rollin
