Good morning All,
This has probably been covered before, but here goes:
Recently started up the car and ran the engine for about 5 mins, (didn\'t go anywhere). Couple of days later went to take car for the MOT and she wouldn\'t start, I have ignition lights and headlights but now just get a high-pitched squealing sound when I turn the key, and she doesn\'t turn.
I imagine I\'ve flooded the engine, just wondered what people thought? The ignition has been somewhat fragile in the past ie. I have to be really careful when turning the key, and not turning it too far. Maybe the switch has finally given up the ghost?
Any thoughts much appreciated:Thumbs-up Thanks.
does the engine actually turn over, if not then the starter / starter solenoid (on side of starter motor, which is bottom of the gear box on the passenger side) or battery voltage are places to look first.
Long shot but could be a loose ring gear on the flywheel. As wouldn\'t the starter just click at best if it was the Solanoid
Not sure if you will be able to do this but if you can safely get under the car to get access to the starter motor, you will find a small wire pushed on.
Pull this off , then get a piece of wire around 4 foot long put this on the small terminal then touch the other end of the wire onto the positive battery terminal and let us know what happens.
If you do this we can help you much better when you can tell us what happens when the starter is shorted out this way.
Thanks everyone for the helpful comments, will take another look and will keep you posted!
Cheers,
Mark
