Title: Rally FC
Post by: Skifledanabit on May 25, 2014, 08:34:28 PM
For a long long time now, I have been fascinated with the world of rally. I have seen pictures of the group b FB and of someone\'s FC from over in America.

I\'ve been thinking about what to do with my EGi, it\'s still too good a car to break, it\'s not worth selling as nobody wants them (not that if really want to sell it in the first place) and it needs work. Well, once I get the MX5 sorted out, why don\'t I accomplish a dream I have had for a long long time and build myself a rally car?

I reckon the lightweight body and the quick RWD rotary engine setup would make for quite a formidable contender. I have thoughts about what to do but I really thought I would run it past you lot first.

Full roll cage,
Rally spec suspension, approx 50mm,
Fixed buckets with harnesses,
Competition wheels,
Gravel scrape plates underneath,

That\'s really all I need to get started isn\'t it? Aside from the relevant licenses etc.

Any thoughts?

There is an expression " dare to be different" , go for it :chat

Gaz suspension are not too far down the road from you and they will convert your struts to rally spec for not a huge amount of money

Go for it! :) Dunno about Fc´s though... but...

When my brother got his FB, we did lot of research about rallying FB. In Usa and Aussies, they have raced alot with those and Fc´s too. They had weird 4wd systems in Fc´s.

My opinion is that Fb is very good car on gravel. And in tarmac of course. It is very neutral to drive in gravel. I think one of the best for that time period. Compared to (for example) Ford Sierra, which is crap.

One problem is ride height and suspension travel. It needs to be higher and needs lots more "in" travel. Suspension will hit bottom quite fast.

Second problem is weight. Fb is very heavy car for old car.

I dont know if you need competition wheels yet. But you need some brake upgrade and engine cooling needs to be very good.

Other than that, I think that Fb´s and Fc´s are very good weapons for gravel too ;)
At the moment, I have weird dream to get RX-8 to gravel ;)
Well, just few of my thoughts...

thing is, what suspension components would be up to the task?

I really dont know. :) There might be Tein components that could do the job. But we thought that best option would be custom made coilovers... Aussies would have answer for that question I think...
