Looking to buy a new turbo, branded one may consider used (no more of this buy cheap, buy twice malarky!)
Looking for something like greddy TD06 20G / 25G or similar. Garrett GT35 something?
Its for a stock port T2 block with 550cc primary, 1680cc secondary injectors, APEng PFC, V mount.
Not after big numbers (350+bhp @fly)but want something that will boost early (not laggy), T4 footprint.
Any thoughts where to buy and what turbo?

Borgwarner. Sx200. Nice small turbo and should spool super quick even with their largest SR turbine housing which will give you a better top end HP number.
No point getting something as large as the s300 range or above
Speak with Ed_Rx7 Parts, in order to save future disappointment :) ;)

thanks guys :)
grant: s200 sx is similar spec to T04E? s300 similar spec to gt35?
S300 is a 650hp max. Turbo on a 13B. Best way to compare them would be too google how many lbs per min of air they each flow:):D
ooh, thanks. hmm why cant it be simple :rollin
another thing to look out for when selecting a turbo..
Borgwarner are really suited too rotaries Aparently, they have much larger turbine wheels than other manufacturers which makes them spool great. The 2 fastest drag FDs in the uk run BW S400\'s:):D;)
Don\'t buy a a ball bearing turbo, waste of money IMO as they\'re much more expensive
Grant bigger wheels don\'t make for quicker spool.......the drag cars your talking about are made purely for power. ....have a look at their dyno graph s and it will show you loads! ....
BW turbos come with larger wheels compared to other manufacturers out of the box..... But you can always get different turbine wheel sizes to suit your needs. This is the reason why I supply the turbos I do because I can mix and natch catering for almost every scenario.... so compromise isn\'t an option.
.....
.............
I think I mean the BW turbine wheel surface area is bigger than others, there\'s a turbo comparison by area on rx7 club.
Yes bud I know... But big turbine wheels don\'t mean you spool up quicker!..... You\'ll find bw turbos generally spool later but make higher peak...... This is because of the turbine wheel s size.:)
This is whey I custom spec turbos for all my customers needs
Interesting read. Ed you got a website to see what you retail? (just being nosy)
Not exactly bud... But my signature gives you an idea.... Or just gimme a call!

You know its good For someone too actually explain things these days, normally on a forum answers are normally "can\'t you use the search function?" Or "I can\'t tell you that info as it\'s top secret" OR "did you research everything off the Internet"
So cheers Ed:)
Li8m defo doesn\'t need a large frame turbo for his needs, that we can agree on:D even a mid frame turbo could be too much, I would honestly take a turbo that a bit small (cheaper) and have better spread of power rather than a drag monster for the street. Even of the turbo peaked at 5500-6000 rpm doesn\'t mean it won\'t still make power when you rev it too 8000 rpm?
Having a larger turbine housing would benefit the peak number but a smaller turbo would come in much quicker?
Also worth saying that a billet wheel maybe not needed unless you are going to be running the turbo at full tilt/potential unless of course the price is the same??

Having a larger turbine housing would benefit the peak number but a smaller turbo would come in much quicker?correct if using a smaller comp housing and the turbine wheel is matched to the comp wheel
Also worth saying that a billet wheel maybe not needed unless you are going to be running the turbo at full tilt/potential unless of course the price is the same??would agree but eventually all comp wheels will be billet......they are my preferred choice anyway...... Why not!
It\'s really about balancing the comp wheel with the turbine wheel.... ( what goes in must come out right! ) No point having a tiny comp wheel with a massive turbine wheel as turbine wheel will in essence out flow what is being ingested by the comp wheel.... Well that\'s more of the basic theory for pistons but for rotaries it\'s different. We can deal with it because of the strength of our exhaust pulses. But the comp wheel would still be a limiting factor .
I would be happy to help spec a turbo for him.... I just need to know his setup and what he wants from the car really.
Appreciate the info guys.
Slowly researching during my down time (which is not much time)
Spec of car:
rebuilt engine, stock ports
550 cc pri, 1680 sec injectors
v mount rad/ ic
greddy comp tube kp secondary rail
bosch 044
3" downpipe back
AP Eng PFC
Boost controller
i\'ve heard of stock t2 block producing 800bhp so think can take a big turbo but i dont need silly figures like that lol
I had a t04e similar spec tub with think 1.15 ar hotside made 374bhp at fly.
thinking maybe something bit bigger but with smaller turbine ar will produce bit more poke and spool quicker?
