Right basically I\'ve decided the route I want to go down with my rx7, it\'s gonna be a daily driver/drift car but I\'d like to change the engine. I know a few people have put sr20\'s in before but I\'d like something abit bigger that can take abit more abuse.
So the question is, as above really has anyone ever put a RB or JZ lump into an FD rx7 and if they have what sort of problems did you encounter?
Cheers Andy
My opinion is that sr20 area crap. :)
Rb or JZ lumbs are good but they are very heavy and big. So one big broblem is that your cars weight distribution will be very different. I think that awesome handling of FD will be gone...
May be a purest but mad mike don\'t seem to struggle for power. Admit idly he runs a triple
why buy an rx7 in first place to put a heavy engine??? confused.com
stick to a S body or skyline i say
plenty people drift rx7s with the rotary engine still place and are reliable
What Blitz Said. For the effort you\'ll go to fitting a big straight six into an rx7 you\'d be able to build a very powerful and reliable 13B.
Reliability\'s the main issue to be honest, would like to keep the rotary lump as I used to love my last one, might just have to see how it goes. Coming round to the idea more of a single turbo rotary plus it would give me abit more money to put into it.
I understand what people say with the whole "why not just buy a car with that in allready etc" but like I said in the other forum if nobody done anything different or modified there wouldn\'t be a car scene.
the 2jz and rb conversion has been done a few times before in the rx7 they all understeered to fooook which is not what you want in a drift car, single turbo rotary is way to go for a drift rx7, single turbo. clutch type lsd, apexi ecu, good aftermarket rad and intercooler and it will be reliable with a good tune, this what a lot successful Jap drift rx7 cars do in Japan
Cool I\'ll probably go down that route then, it\'s allready got an uprated radiator and intercooler but might go vmount and keep the radiator and go with a larger intercooler, think an apexi will be next on the list.
Water injection might be worth considering for a drift car too.
