Title: Spare Wheel
Post by: Shark on August 05, 2004, 07:27:05 PM
Does removing this make any significant difference to the weight balance or handling?   Seems a bit pointless to have as it just looks too small and I\'d be scared to drive with that on one corner of the car!  :(  :(

Also, I seem to get water pooling in the spare wheel recess in really bad rain.  I\'ve checked all the usual seals round the bootlid, and there\'s no water ingress anywhere else, or even above the well.  I know rear footwells have been known to get wet but they\'re bone dry.

Any ideas?

ive removed my \'get u home wheel\' coz lkike u said, its a bit pointless, and my cars too low to jack up anyway.

Ive noticed all wheel wells seem to collect water.  Must be a conspiracy!!!

Ive taken mine out at the moment, and on long trips put a spare proper wheel in there that I know fits on the back and front.

Around town, where Ill spend most my time I dont bother as I can get home or get someone to bring me a wheel.

I dont think it makes much difference as the spare isnt heavy, but with it in place I cant fit another rim in the boot so I need it out for spare wheels/more space in general.

My boot is bone dry though, and doesnt get water in it.

I used to have water pool in my boot until I took my car to bits and realised there are some holes that allow water in yer boot!

Open your boot and just forward of the rear lights are triangular pieces of plastic - remove these and you may see a hole that leads into your boot! Also the rubber bits that the screws go in to hold the bit of plastic may have worn and left a small gap allowing water through. I used some heavy duty black duct tape on it and have never had a wet boot since.;)

I find it adds a bit of weight to the car, although it\'s not as noticable as a passengers weight (during accelarating).

Odd.  Mine weighs very little.  Still not there though, takes up boot space!
