Title: Xs power ic good enough for remap?
Post by: Ashp1989 on April 22, 2014, 08:28:34 AM
Iv got an fd3s, it\'s got all the supporting mods, full exhaust system (kakimoto) uprated rad, aluminium ast, apexi ecu, and an Xs power ic. Now I know these ic arnt the best, but pip said they can be quite good if they are ducted properly, but I\'m just seeing what other people think. Will it be good enough for a remap?

It all depends on the supporting mods, a xs will probably be fine on stock twins  and maybe even a very small single but it will not be the best, intercoolers are one area where it is worth spending the money, and remember if you map the car with a xs and then choose to change it you will need to remap again, loosing any potential savings that you made,

I had a car mapped with one set-up as a V-mount, drove very well

If in original position, not sure what improvements you\'ll get

Never thought of that Charlie. Have you got any pics? It\'s worth a try. How much of a job is it?

Buy cheap buy twice. They are Shhhhhh*****t fullstop, we had one on the dyno, heavy restriction, changed to a GReddy Intercooler gained 40bhp on the next visit

Are you intending to track mate? I had this pain with my fd...wish id gone v mount from the start...gotta agree with Blitzboy. Temps and detonation are fd killers....just enjoy as is with pips safe map and do it once properly.  I think the reason the pfc was never mapped was due to mapper telling previous owner to sort the ic. With a v youll liberate a few extras ponies as well.
I had to constantly keep the pfc hand controller in monitor on my lap if giving it beans. My front mount blocked my rad.

Just that I\'m wanting to get it mapped sooner rather than later as it\'s got the supporting mods but no map. But when pip came down to check the car over for me he did turn the boost down. But I\'m still conscious about it. Iv already got the bigger rad but I think it\'s to big, so I\'d probably need a fresh vmount and rad setup. What are people lad views on a decent setup that doesn\'t cost the earth? Just out of curiosity how much do you change for mapping blitzboy?

Also, has anybody bought a decent fmic with decent size core and capacity and used it in the vmount position?

Try Martin at Speedline he has his own section on this forum, a decent FMIC will be fine for your car, as it will flow the air correctly through it to the RAD. You can pick a decent TRust \\Greddy second hand for aaprox £200. No need for V mount unless tracking it regularly.

I charge £350 all in including dyno time at Surrey Rolling road btw, but I am based down south, So Pip will work out cheaper for you

Cheers for that. What position would the rad have to be in? Behind the fmic? Or on a slant like it is now? I don\'t intend to track the car really. I just better cooling temps really.

Iv just bought a universal fmic, 600x300x76. Both inlet and outlet are 3", I\'m going to order some pipes and joiners etc. but what size pipes shall I go for? Is the stock size 2.5" or 2.75? Just so I no be buy a silicone reducer from 3" to the size or the reccomended pipe size. Cheers.
