Title: Soldering RX8 O2 Sensor
Post by: stu0056 on April 09, 2014, 12:48:57 PM
I have removed the engine from my RX8, whilst doing this I got into a position where I had forgot to unclip the plug from the Manifold (front) O2 sensor. I could\'n\'t reach to plug as the gearbox had been pushed up as far as it would go and with the engine suspended didn\'t fancy playing about underneatht he car so I decided to cut the wires. I can now safely remove the electrical plug from above the gearbox, if I solder the wires back together would this have any adverse effects on the O2 sensor?

Cheers

The front sensor takes a huge amount of date back to the ECU to make your RX-8 run correctly and the loom operates on a canbus system and is intolerant to seeing wrong signals.

You have a chance if you crimp the wires back together but I have been told by many people that you must not solder the wires on a canbus loom because you will interfere with the wires resistance.

This means you can try to crimp the wires back together but it would probably be better to replace the sensor bearing in mind that the 5 speed and 6 speed sensors are different

Hope this helps

Thanks Clive, I was worried that this would be the case. I have since found out the engine is completely knackered so I might try and source a new one with a sensor already fitted. Cheers
