Hi
Having a bit of trouble at the moment. I\'ve converted my car to non-sequential but it doesn\'t seem to be performing with any punch! It seems like only one turbo is boosting.
I was getting 0.5 bar on the boost gauge so i installed a manual boost controller which doesn\'t seem to be adjustable at all (screw doesn\'t change) and boost is around 1 bar.
The car above 5-6k does sometimes back fire.
Any ideas what it could be????
Have you had it remapped ?
Mine was non seq....be very careful....2 turbos will act as 1 and both come on song together....that backfire is prob fuel cut. Run it 0.5 till you get it mapped.plumb wastegate straight to turbo. Will go bang i ran at 0.7 after remap...
Need to port the wastgate too , over boosting = fuel cut
Will it fuel cut even with a power fc?
It hasn\'t been mapped, but just doesn\'t seem to have any punch. How can you tell if both turbos are working, would that be based upon the amount of boost generated?
You need to get the fc mapped for the non seq conversion. Your building 1 bar of boost then its cutting. I had the same issue with my fd. I ran for a year at 0.5 bar.
Is it possible for the second turbo to be shot and the primary turbo spooling 0.5bar alone?
Just seems to climbing up the revs too slow
Before the conversion where both turbos spooling? Then maybe a mistake with the conversion? Mine at 0.5 bar was still rapid boost came on very quickly from 5k. What your describing does sound like fuel cut. Time to check your plumbing and get some help from a specialist if suddenly both turbos come on at 1bar or more with that MBC wound out your going to detonate your engine bud!
Id plumb from turbo to wastegate so max you can get is 0.5 bar and confirm both are building boost....been a while since i had my non seq fd so memory rusty.
Your goona need a electronic boost controller and apexi remap if you want to run more than 0.5 bar todo it properly.
For the cost of a few hours labour at a specialist far better than a rebuild.
I know you want todo it yourself as i did ! But ill tell you this......i dont have an fd anymore......it blew up....because i messed about with an mbc and non seq conversion! I got it mapped but engine blew a tip few months later prob because of all the detonation it was subjected to whilst messing about.
Something like a 200sx or any piston turbod engine you can get away with raising boost slightly at home on the drive but for a rotary very dodgy!
I don\'t know about the turbo as I put another used pair on. Is is possible for one turbo to generate 0.5 bar?
Yes, Did you spin both turbos by hand and feel for any play? When a turbo blows it its bearings boost is still there but lots of smoke from oil getting into the turbo....theres a butterfly in the manifold is that still in there?
There\'s no smoke and airways are clean.
The butterfly I cut out and plugged it with a bolt. Just checked it now and I can turn the bolt by hand so I\'m guessing it\'s loosened and not building enough pressure to turn the compressor wheel?
U recon I should take the turbos off?
Im unsure mate....i thought the butterfly was needed It was fitted on mine.
I believe the precontrol butterfly needs to be removed to allow flow to the second turbo. I think from what I remember there is another precontrol flap too which needs to be cut out.
Ok so I plumbed the wastegate direct to the turbo outlet and it\'s holding 0.4 bar slightly creeping to 0.5 at top end.....but still not feeling like a strong pull, it feels like one and a half turbos.
Could it be maybe a leak which is preventing the second turbo to spool up efficiently, is there anyway to test that?
Does sound like 1 turbo mate...anyway you can hook 2 boost gauges to work out whats going on ....or maybe a waste gate problem?
Cheers for the help mate.
Where shall i hook up the second boost gauge to read from,no port from the 2nd turbo?
The 1st turbo has a two way outlet port (one for the wastegate) shall I hook it up here for the first turbo?
Unless there\'s a port then probably not possible, think maybe time to get some professional help.
