Hi chaps - haven\'t been on for a while as the car has been hibernating over winter. Just popped a recharged battery back in, and engine started first time! Hooray!
Except... not hooray, because the engine started with the key at position II (ON), rather than being twisted to III (START). I could probably live with that if it didnt also mean the starter motor must be spinning away constantly.
Where do I begin to hunt down this little gremlin? Something must be shorting and I sure as hell don\'t want a fire!
2 feeds to starter motor...1 live big 1. Other 1 solenoid feed...id check at the starter first. Pos 3 will make solenoid live and engage starter...must be a short across starter to solenoid.
2 bolts it will drop out....might be easier to bench test it.Bit safer that way.
^^^ What he said ^^^
Key switch start (cranking) feeds the starter solenoid - it\'s job is twofold - to spin the starter, and engage it into the clutch ring gear. If it\'s receiving +12v on the little wire all the time you have key in position 2, then something is shorting somewhere !
Time to chase wires!
Waaaaaa :(
