Hi. My name is ash I live in Atherton, not far from wigan and Bolton. Iv been looking at this fd3s 1993 import. It hasn\'t been started in 18months but the bodywork and interior is immaculate. But iv been speaking to boosted on here who has been very helpful and rekans that it may need a rebuild because it\'s been sat there for so long with potential fluids in it and may have eat away at the seals? Be a shame really as the car is mint. When he\'s got it out of his warehouse I will get it checked over and get a compression test done by a specialist, or someone off here who knows a lot could come down and have a good look for me? Will pay for fuel and pay for your time.
Iv not seen many, if any rx7 round my way so I\'m guessing the closest person who\'s got one is t that close lol. The car I\'m looking at has done 40.000miles, full de-catted exhaust system, aftermarket intercooler, aftermarket air filters and an apexi fc, but need mapping properly.
But like I said my worry is it needing a rebuild which I can not afford just yet but would save up for 1 if the car is fine.

First up is a welcome to MRC proper.
The price is going to be key to this one, however if you are worried about the water seals it may be worth sporting the money with a Mazda dealer for a water system and compression check to be carried out so you would know exactly what you have, mind you the dealer would also know what you have with the engine as well.
If your buying this as a non runner though the price should reflect this as it would have no MOT either.
He said he going to get a new battery for it and get it started a and see what it needs before he sells it. Before I started reading up on stuff he said he would be happy with 5k but after reading and getting more in depth of what might need doing then I\'m not willing to spend no were near that much on it. I\'d rather get a 1 off here off a respectable member who\'s has cared for it and done some cooling mods. I Idealy want a red fd3s twin turbo, but will 5k get me a decent 1?

Yes 5k or 5.5k will get you a decent twin turbo car....however, if the car comes cheap but in different colour, I would buy the car that is cheap and good and re-spray it at a later stage when I have some spare cash lol ;). Mate, don\'t restrict your search to a colour of the car as the colour of the car is no good, when the car is broken down or it signs up to be a garage queen! ;). Buy a sort after FD and enjoy the ownership, or it can all end up in tears. :eek:

If he gets it going mate. do a champagne test on it you can do it yourself no expense. do a you tube search will show you how. Cut the bottom of a plastic coke bottle all you need.
Do you know why its been parked up for 18 months and how long its been ran on the apexi without being mapped?
That intercooler needs ducting in as well will heatsoak pretty quickly.
He got it started yesterday on the first turn of the key with a power pack on the battery. The guy is genuine as i know him. He wouldn\'t sell it me overpriced if it needs major work. He just said he doesn\'t have time to drive it. He owns his own body shop and just drives his work vehicle. I swaying towards not getting it anyway because of the work it might need doing.
What do u mean by duct the intercooler in? Not sure how long it\'s been run without getting it mapped. Il will ask all these questions when I see him on Friday. Thanks for your help.
The intercooler needs boxing in so fresh air has no choice and has to pass through the fins to cool it. Just sat there the hot air from the turbo will just heat it up and charged temps will rise....see you wanted add....there coming out of the woodwork...p plate fresh engine 12 months ticket...5500 thats what you can get for your money! The guy maybe nice selling the project 1 now but once youve handed over the cash your own . Do you want to mod or keep standard? Id steer clear unless cheap.
I\'d want to mod. Just do the advised cooling, fmic. Exhaust, air filters. And a remap, looking for around 300/330bhp nothing drastic as I want the engine lasting longer.
I ended up buying this car for £5500. Pip from wgt came and inspect it for me on Saturday and he\'s was impressed with the condition of the car and engine. Had mid 7\'s of compression on the front rotars and low 7\'s on the rear rotars. Went for a test drive and everything works as it should, breakers are still fine. Pip adjusted the apexi so that it was on low boost untill mapped properly. And he actually said that he would buy it, and that if anything the car is slightly underpriced for the spec and the condition. All I all I\'m happy with the car, I will get some proper pics up later and see what you guys think.

Good news mate....but did you just mention Pip came down to see/check the car? :eek::eek::2eek.sorry but I never thought that he would ever come out to check cars...as it goes he is a very busy man... lucky you mate. Now that, Pip has approved the car, its a real time for celebration because you got the car checked by one of the decent rotary builder/mapper.

Yep you read it right. He did come down to see it and check it for me. He was more than happy with it and couldn\'t believe how tidy it was :) just a little repair needed in the bumper, nothing major. I love it so far, just need that magic touch off pip to get me some more ponies.
