could you decat it if you run a standard ecu hks induction and rear box without re-mapping it or do you need to do anything at the same time as the de-cat?

I would like to know the answer to this too, as a power fc (or similar) seems a little ott just for fitting an induction kit and decatted exhaust to me, but then i never had a turbo\'d car before :confused: .

Not usually advised as any risk of running lean, which decat inevitably may assist, will lead to far more expense c/o rebuild than wots generally seen as a cunning & useful plan c/o ECU upgrade.....

thats why id rather replace than put it a decat, i got an induction kit and i know my ECU is a knightsports one but afaik nothings been xhanged mixture wise.

im runnig a standard ECU but have HKS induction and backbox, all soul be ok dont you think? can you remapp/ tune with standard ecu?

i\'m running stock ecu with hks induction and kakimoto n decat.. though I don\'t feel safe, i\'m always worrying something may go wrong, but as im only at 0.5 bar it shouldn\'t be doing TOO much damage *touch wood*
I\'d get yaself an apexi you can pick them up cheap as chips now :)

& Dave standard ECU aint tunable although you should just about get away with a back box & induction any more thou & i wouldn\'t wana risk it personally but maybe i\'m just risk adverse

you won\'t know until you take it off and inspect it mate.. generally there is a test, but watch out!
If it has a blocked cat the heat build up will be tremendous...hold your hand at the back of the exhaust (close) and feel the heat coming out after a few mins of idle..
generally if it\'s roasting them it\'s likely its crapped up.. Leon at jps burnt his hand checking mine so be careful.. but you wouldn\'t know 100% unless you get a torch inside and have a look :)

well i know from previously feeling that the exaust heat is very hot, noticed when i was chatting a a friend behind my car and the back of my leg felt like someone was holding a blow torch to it.

personally I was in two minds to get a new cat but I thought "ahh its gonna happen again" and was interested in giving it a bit more "unf" so decided against it..
I went for the loud option of unsilenced with the apexi and kinda love the sound, gives the car a totally different feel, sounds like it came straight off the GT track hehe I love it ;)

my main issue at the moment is im about 80hp down on standard bhp and i dont know why (boost is also low 7prim, 5secondary) would a blocked cat cause lower boost due to what would basically be a blockage?
when i first felt that heat from the exaust i figured it must just be how hot these run, being unfamilier with them.

it would cause low boost yes.. basically cause a blockage in the system. We thought that was the reason mine was only putting out 0.5 bar.. allbeit it was blocked but still havn\'t worked out what it is..
truth is could be a lot of things, fact is though it\'s doing NO good being in there and needs changing right away / removed.
They do run hot but not hot enough to roast ya with hehe..
I\'m bored of trying to work out whats causing mine so I anticpate dropping it down reworx at the end of the month for a week and getting him to sort it all out :)

is there just the one cat on a 92 rx7? i\'ve replaced the centre one with a second had one of a good running rex but not really any change.

Hey daneh,
Mines doing exactly the same mate. Replaced a lot of hoses, get rid of the cat, new ecu etc but no joy. I\'m giving up trying to work it out so mines off to Reworx. Just want it fixed as i\'m bored of trying to find it now :(

Take a look in the vendors sale section, Samfc3s is selling PFC and commander for £595 to your door. I got mine from him this morning so off to have it fitted and mapped on Monday

be aware that i believe modifying an exhaust which make it\'s louder means it\'s is automatically illegal. All technically speaking & guess emisssions etc is technically illegal too & it is a good cheap way of decatting so tiz a good plan from that point of view i guess but just bear it in mind if you get pulled or such like.....:eek:
