Title: another vacuum question.
Post by: shifty biscuits on February 06, 2014, 04:46:35 PM
i have a major hiss coming from a pipe near the alternator (see pics) if i cover it the car seems to idle badly but open it runs fine, just hisses loudly.
can anyone tell me what it is and where it should go?
cheers.

WOW , good luck with that !

Ive just been out to check mine , and yes i have a pipe connected to it , where it actually goes its anyones guess :(

It looks like an alternator job off to get a good look at it :(

you might get a better look with the intercooler off

i take it thats a slimmed down vacuum diagram? mine has at least a million more pipes than that haha. on my other car (kimutari/mitch\'s car) it goes to the recirc dump valve but its not stock looking at all, that one has no rats nest and is very confused and modified lots. the one in question is bone stock other than a rad and exhaust and i cant see an obvious loose pipe anywhere near it. the idle drops when i block that pipe from lovely smooth idle, to sounding like its gonna cut out. its odd... i want to keep that lot, all the rats nest and randomness, but im getting tempted to bin the lot to ease my brain strain haha.

looks like there are 2 pipes , each going to one end of the purge control valve ??

can you trace where the blue pipe goes to ??

As looking at that diagram , one should go to the top of the valve , and the other to the bottom

So if you can trace the blue pipe , then best guess is that\'s where the other should go ??

Check of there is any of the hard pipes behind the alternator that have something missing

those 2 pics are slightly different which doesnt help!

the top diagram shows only 2 pipes , yet the above picccy shows 3 ??

JohnC - you got a fuller pic of the above diagram ?

Im "thinking" its the top of the 3 pipes in the centre of the diagram he is asking about , but from your snip , you cant tell where all 3 of them go

i thought it was the blue pipe ??

not sure if it will actually help

i think he needs to get either the IC off or the alternator and he will have a better idea ( also will be able to work out if he has 2 or 3 pipes )
