How many times a second does 1 leading spark plug fire at 9200 rpms in an rx8 231? :Giggle
Hmmm... errrrr????..... Lots? :D
Adam
3066 assuming a single firing per ignition.
Depends on what type of igntion the rx8 has. CDI MSD? As they have multiple spark plug strikes per "fire"
Yep I\'m being a smart arse because I don\'t want to give the wrong answer. Lol
The obvious answer is to divide the rpm by 60.
60 seconds in a minute
9200/60 = 153.3 per second
The e shaft rotates 3 times for one revolution of the rotor but you have 3 combustion events thereofore 3 fires of the plug per 3 revolutions of the eshaft
1 revolution of the eshaft = 1 rpm??
I thought Grant was right as thats what i came up with but i\'ve since been doing more reading and read that on the renesis the leading plug fires again with the trailing plug to complete the burn?
so 306.6 fires per second ? hoping a mapper can confirm?
153 or 306 pretty impressive no wonder rx8s eat coil packs!
It\'s no wonder they run so damn hot! All those firing sequences and no cooling sequence like a piston engine. This is why rotaries are awesome at spooling mahoosive turbos
I read a load of hocus pocus rx7 and aftermarket ecu stuff explaining tuning and wasted spark..... Rx8 having 4 sparks with 4 coils all seperate channels does not employ wasted spark and Lead and Trial fire the same amount of times with the trailing 10-15 degrees later to complete the burn. So 153 ignites per second at 9200 on each plug! Thats impressive and fast processing !
The fiqure i got for an s2000 at same rpm is 9200 / 2 ( cycles to complete the 4 stage combustion) 4600 /60 = 76.6 sparks per second !
Why do you think beefier coilpacks are such a popular mod?

Was doing my research on them! Plus my neighbour needs a full set!....But if mazda with the latest revision have sorted them now then no longer an issue!
They haven\'t really. They still don\'t last.
I got new 1s so not gonna worry about it but my Neighbours not to happy! Its only there weekend car. Mazda should sell them at cost to protect the reputation of the Rotary engine. Or at least heavily discounted.
Get a D585 coilpack kit from Rotary Revs (http://www.rotaryrevs.com/). They\'re fit and forget and they give the car a bit more urge in the mid-range.
So basically I was right! :p

Checking out now....could flog mine to nieghbour and upgrade!

Yeah lots lol:Hammer:Giggle
I may go down this route later on.....my coils are new .....and got plenty of other issues to worry about lol
They\'re worth getting if you need new coils but if you\'re on good coils then you\'ll be okay for a bit.
Thanks Will, like the idea of a fix and forget solution.
