Time to get the trackday season started at one of my "local" circuits. This event is being run by MSVT and he sticker price is a very reasonable £99 for Open Pit Lane**.
HOWEVER, if we get 5 cars or more, we get 10% off that price, so £89.10, PLUS we get at least one free garage (worth £30).
Details can be found here; CLICKY (http://www.msvtrackdays.com/car-home/event-details?productid=2135)
Never done a trackday before? As on all trackdays, they are well managed and marshalled. There will be a comprehensive, compulsory, safety briefing at the start of the day for all drivers, followed by some slow “sighting laps†behind a lead car. There will be plenty of experienced trackheads present who will be only too happy give assistance to any novices.
** “Open Pit Lane†means you are free to drive on the circuit when you like, for as much as you like, subject to safe numbers on circuit. If you have a standard RX-8, then expect to get about 10-15 minutes on track with around 25-30 minutes to “cool-offâ€, else you, your engine, tyres and brakes will overheat!
Circuit Statistics:
Length: 2.99 miles
Corners: 13
Max Noise: 105dB Static, 92dB drive-by.
REQUIREMENTS: Helmets are required, and you MUST bring along your driving license (both parts if you have them) on the day for inspection.
PAYMENT FOR THIS EVENT:
Call 0843 453 3000
IMPORTANT: State you are part of "Casey\'s Group" and want to book Snetterton on 21st Feb.
They will ask if you want to add an extra driver or need helmet hire.
Give them your Credit Card details.
They are unlikely to put the card payment through until 1st Feb, so we just need to have 5 or more of us in "Casey\'s Group" go through the process to ensure the 10% comes off at payment time.
That\'s it, get booking, then confirm on here you\'ve booked and I\'ll update the first post :D
INSURANCE: Insurance is not compulsory, but your normal road insurance is unlikely to cover you. Please look at the separate “Trackday Insurance†thread for advice and make your own judgement.
INSTRUCTION: Will be available on the day
LOCAL ACCOMMODATION: Some people may want to stay locally the night before, the night after, or even both! If anyone knows the area and any good places to stay, then please let me know. There\'s a lot of interest in this trackday over on the RX8OC. A wonderful track with lots of challenging corners at an absolutely bargain price. Typically the price for this track is anywhere from £139 to over £200, but this event is less than £90 :D You\'d struggle to book at an airfield day at that price!
- A full Open Pitlane Trackday for £89.10 - assuming 5 or more book, which isn\'t looking to be an issue :)
- Clive is bringing the new RX-8 race car along for further testing
- Maximum of 70 cars at the event with a track limit of 45 cars. A good ratio to reduce pit lane queuing
- A free garage (worth £30) for every 5 cars
- Standard 105dB static and 92dB drive-by noise limits
It would be great to get some RX-7\'s along to join the RX-8\'s :Thumbs-up All other cars also welcome if they are friends (or your rotary is off the road) and can bump up our group size!
This is looking to be another well supported event, with 8 MRC/RX8OC members booked in so far and another 6 expressing serious interest.
Not too late to join the party :cheers
Whats the rules for spectators?
I would be intrested in coming along to see what its all about but im not so keen on a track day so early in the year.
^^Hi Dan, entry to the track is free, you can just drive in, find our group of garages and park up in the paddock area behind. Spectators have access to the pit garages, pit lane wall and any public areas around the circuit, subject to safety and marshall directions. The clubhouse will be open for food and drink all day.
If you want to go out as a passenger you will need a helmet (bring your own or hire one for £10 for the day). You\'ll also need to pay for a passenger wristband for ~£10 for the day, entitling you to blag a ride in any car, if the driver will take you :D
I hope we\'ll see you there :Thumbs-up

Sounds like it could be a good day out!
^^With Clive planning to take his race prepped RX-8 along for testing it will add some extra incentive to go along and watch :Thumbs-up If you weren\'t aware, the car had it\'s first test outing at Brands Hatch in December, which revealed some fueling issues, which are hopefully now sorted. Clive was impressed with the potential of the car, despite being restricted to the first 1/4" of throttle pedal. That meant I was able to overtake him several times during the day and have video of it - I don\'t think I\'ll be doing that again if it\'s sorted :Laugh
I assume you\'ve seen Clive\'s thread on here about his race car RX-8? If not, I recommend you have a look OVER HERE (http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=75841&highlight=race) :mmmm
If you wanted to make a day of it you could also join some of us afterwards for a meal in a nearby pub restaurant (just 2 miles up the road from Snett). If you would like to join us, just let me know at least 2 weeks before the date so I can book a big enough table for us all!
Track day booked !!! Just need the car to be finished...or at least finished enough to run on track. :Giggle
Glad you joining us Chris :)
Great news Chris :Thumbs-up
List updated - if I\'ve missed anyone/anything let me know ;)
Still room for more!
Where did I get bullied in to this one... And CrissyUK?
Quote from: Arnie_O;872349Where did I get bullied in to this one... And CrissyUK?
Maybe not you then, but I stuck the entry down when you posted on the RX8OC thread;
"May be able to get Crissy interested in this one... At that price and being local"
Any update on Crissy, or yourself come to that - only a day trip for you both and at £89 it\'s a bargain :D
Thought I would wind you up...
We will both be attending this in our cars all going well.
;) I had a sneaky feeling that was what you were doing :p
It\'ll be really great if you can both make it, especially Crissy as she hasn\'t done a trackday for quite a while :Thumbs-up
Oh don\'t worry... I bullied her in to it... *cough* valentines treat *cough*
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww, that\'s lovely :InLove
However, if I treated Gwyn to a trackday for Valentine\'s I can guarantee the reaction I\'d get :o:D
OK, work beckons; 2 shiney new Win7 PC installs to do today (that\'ll be 6 this week, with another 4 next week, so far......). :WaveBye
Crissy and I are both booked in for some hoonigsnism
What\'s the plan for accommodation then?
I need to book this up for Clive especially for the Thursday evening, not sure if anyone is staying for the Friday evening after the meal??
You can rely on me...I\'m booked in the Breckland Lodge on Thursday and Friday nights.
Looking great, getting close to 20 cars now :)
I\'ve updated the first post in this thread with all the info on who\'s coming, meal Friday night and hotel. If I\'ve got anything wrong, let me know. I\'m assuming those who have booked a hotel are all staying at the Breckland Lodge - let me know if not.
Just under a month to go, still time for more people to book this :yes
Hotel bookd for Thursday & Friday night
What are rooms costing for the hotel?
£69.00 per night, plus cost for breakfast
Just a "heads up" that card payments were taken by MSVT today. Sixteen went through OK, one didn\'t.......MINE :o
Somehow MSVT had the wrong expiry date for my card, now sorted!
With 17 so far paid up we\'d qualify for 3 garages (1 per 5 cars) , but I\'ve had a word with Stuart at MSVT and he\'s agreed to give us 3 additional garages (worth £90) so we have 3 cars per garage, which normally works well at these events :D
Do you have any idea of last minute availability for this event? Still weighing up Silverstone on the Sunday or even if the latest round of work on the car will be complete by then.
Thanks
Martin
Hi Martin
Still a few place left at 5pm today, but no guarantee how long that situation will last. Please join us if you can :)
Just rang and booked.
Really hoping I can finally join you guys for a trackday! (after Cadwell last year which I was super-keen on, and then my car wasn\'t ready).
^^^ Excellent news, fingers crossed no problems with the car before the day. I\'ve applied some "reverse psychology"; conann was listed as 13 on the list but has pulled out, so slotted you into the 13 slot :Thumbsup!
Yahoooo !! Now have a running FD !
I now have to learn how to drive it, it\'s a beast compared to the previous set up !
:burnout
Huge mistake again C, you forgot those vids again ;) Just kidding, good to hear that your beast is running again.
Quote. "I now have to learn how to drive it, it\'s a beast compared to the previous set up !"
Umm, what you have done? Wasnt she beast before???
^^^ Just my thoughts :Laugh
Great to hear she\'s alive and kicking again Chris :Thumbs-up

You will be fine with all that big linier no lag power you now have:Viking
Malcolm... Spoke to Crissy
I think we are happy to stay for the meal after the event.
^^ Good stuff, you know it makes sense :Giggle
Let me have your food pre-order before the weekend (as per my post on the RX8OC thread).
@samoht - forgot to say C J R will be pleased that there will be another FD on track :cool
Bump! There were still a few places left on Friday! Bargain at £89.10 for a full OPL day :Thumbs-up
Quote from: Casey;874018Bump! There were still a few places left on Friday! Bargain at £89.10 for a full OPL day :Thumbs-up
Now sold out.
Hoping for a good day !
Well, thought getting the FD back would be sufficient to enjoy this session. Unfortunately the trailer storage facility had a fire last night and my trailer was partly destroyed !!
Managed to secure a replacement trailer for hire, but have to return it Saturday morning !
I\'d post up a couple of pictures but i phone pictures keep getting rejected by the site.
Hopefully I\'ll still see you all Friday.
Chris
Wow, that\'s bad luck!! Well done arranging a replacement trailer, hope it doesn\'t end up too much hassle.
Is the mega-FD not road legal?
:Giggle yes its road legal, but you all know my luck on track. Drive it there and trailer it back !!
 Unbelievable Chris! What incredibly bad luck, but glad to hear you\'ve managed to hire another trailer.
I take it your trailer is repairable, just not in the timescale? Is it insured?
Only a few days now! BBC weather forecast looks promising, but to distant to be reliable ;)

Most of it is very familiar stuff for the regulars, but page one contains;
1. List of attendees
2. Buddy pairs
3. Garage allocations
I strongly suggest you print off at least page one and bring it with you. We definitely have SIX garages, and I\'ve asked for an extra one.
PLEASE use the attached allocations to share as indicated; Garage 1 being the closest to the signing on office, garage 7 the furthest. These will NOT be the actual garage numbers, simply the number in the GROUP we are allocated. I shall aim to get to the circuit by 7.30am (traffic and weather permitting!) and will probably need to collect the keys for all the garages, as they are normally locked. If this is the case just park up in the paddock area until we\'ve got the keys.
Holy crap Chris, you really have bad luck :/ Btw, have you repaired that dent from last years bad luck?
I´m so jealous for you guys. Your tracks are open in middle of winter. :( Our tracks are closed basically 6 months. Usually we can go to lake and icerace, but this year we have crappy year so we cant do even that. :( And my crap/toy is waiting for shakedown...
So Insurance think trailer will be a write off !!!
It was fully refurbished in December by a professional trailer company and I have only owned it from 4th January !!!:(
Only one side has been fire damaged, but as you would expect, both tyres melted/rims buckled. Bearings and suspension damaged. Wiring and lights melted. Towing hitch affected by heat and as its a tipping trailer the hydraulic ram is not holding pressure !!!
At east it was just a trailer, 8 people are without caravans.
Hell fire ! At least the car wasn\'t sat on the trailer waiting to get used.
Enjoy the day !
Shaun
Weather looking good for Friday, bring suntan lotion for the morning ;) , no clouds forecast 8am-2pm, then patchy clouds in afternoon, but no rain :Thumbs-up . Looking good for those of us with trackday semi-slick tyres :D
Temps 4-8 degrees, not bad for February!
Might be a bit windy, as Snetterton is quite exposed, forecast gusts of ~30mph, so bring warm layers to wear in between track stints.
Everyone should have received an email from MSVT confirming their place, plus the disclaimer form and garage number allocations - the latter should make it easier for us to get organised at the start of the day. Please note your garage number and, if open when you arrive, go and park up inside; 2 in garage one in front or behind (keeping yellow fire lane clear!). If the garages are locked when you arrive, park up in large paddock area as close to garage as possible.
PLEASE check with your garage "sharers" and if someone needs to change wheels, etc, give then priority in the garage itself.

Just to say thanks to Casey for organising an awesome day, and to Kerim and Clive for saving my day(!)
Snetterton is a really fun track, the combinations of corners one into another make it a good challenge.
Car ran well all day and air / water temps fine, so the FMIC setup is working well. Only problem was a nasty vibration under braking that developed in mid afternoon, I need some better pads I think.
Very few traffic problems on track, lots of good running. I had an instruction session and that really helped me, I was much more effective after that.
Days like today make it all worthwhile!
Oh yeah, a highlight was being faster than a 996 GT3 around the lap, including catching him (very slowly) on the straights. That felt good!
What??? You were faster than 996 GT3? What car do you drive? ;)
Anyways, that GT3 is awesome car on track so you should be proud. Good job mate :)
To be fair, I think the driver was being a bit cautious, and a slow driver can be slow in anything. However, he did seem to be full throttle on the straights, so to be catching him up there was more of a surprise.
My car is an FD, sequential twins, fmic, intake, exhaust, mapped by JayDee. AD08 tyres. I guess the cold air probably gives turbo cars a slight advantage.
The handling is the main thing though, so responsive and controllable on the limit.
^^ I think the GT3 car must have been doing some driver training during as even I was able to overtake him several times during the day. The car was very slow in the corners, so the car clearly wasn\'t being driven anywhere near to it\'s potential. I\'ll try and get some video footage edited to show what I mean :Laugh
Wasn\'t the weather brilliant :) Bright sunshine in the morning, so the track was bone dry by about 11.30, giving those with track rubber some fantastic levels of grip to play with. The only downside was the wind at times, but the garages provided excellent shelter. But hey, this is February, it doesn\'t get much better than this, especially on an exposed flat area of the fens :D
Big thanks from me to everyone who attended the day, seeing so many smiling faces made all the effort of organising worthwhile. Alongside all the "regulars", it was good to see Lem and Zongoose for their first trackday in RX-8\'s (although Zongoose is no stranger to trackdays :D ). Great to see a smiling Paras back for his 2nd outing with us (and I hope your son is feeling better today). You guys were driving extremely well out there :Thumbs-up
Also fantastic to see CrissyUK back on track after a 3 year break. Great circuit lines and natural style, just need to go quicker What a present to get from Arnie_O for Valentine\'s day! Aston, car looking and sounding great.
At last we had another FD to share the track with C J R - thanks for going us samoht (read that backwards if you didn\'t get it :D ). C J R, your car is more awesome than ever, some great work under the bonnet!
Clive, sorry you had another frustrating start to the day in your epic task of getting that "hybrid FD/FE" machine running. The massive potential of that car is clear to all, so I\'m pleased the day did finally yield some progress in the right direction (well the wrong direction if you include the grass cutting excursion ;) ). If you do organise another test day at Brands soon, let me know and I\'ll try and get down, if only to hold an oily rag ......
Great to see stewartm and KJB travel down too, and sorry the "Snetterton Curse" on your cars came back to haunt your latest one. I hope Ben can sort out the issue quickly. I hope you both got back safely and hope you might have some good pics to share later. Thanks for being brave enough to passenger with me Katie when Ray and I were having some fun chasing one another :D
So pleased to see one of the original stalwarts, Zarterone, and his daughter Chantelle are stiil enjoying days out with us. Thanks for the passenger ride Paul, a hoot as ever! Thanks Chantelle for brightening up the pits with your smile!
Duffby name, I\'ll be timing you the next time you change your rear pads  Great job you did there in the garage and great to see you with us again Iain.
Harrisons5 - sorry we didn\'t get out on track together Robert, we really must share some rides next time. Your car was looking and sounding awesome!
GSB and Grimreaper; car was looing good Nigel, thanks again guys for the fantastic support you give to these events and the club in general :god
Gonefishing, the big smile on your face all day said it all, glad you could join us for the day to have some fun.
Bob, good to see you again, somehow or another I didn\'t see you much during the day, but I know you had a good time.
Clarky, glad to help out at the start of your day and I\'m sorry it was cut short by Carol not feeling too well. I hope she is feeling better today and if you\'d like me to buddy at a future trackday, just ask. At least you can say you\'ve driven your 8 on track!
Last, but not least (maybe in stature though :D ), Harrizone, the guy I have to blame for my serious addiction to trackdays. Seeing him drive his Rex at Brands many years ago gave me the courage to take my car tout out on that track and that\'s how this journey started. Now we having a hoot as both are cars are pretty much the same setup and having watched many others drivers on track to pick up ideas I can now keep up with him, something I never thought I\'d ever be able to do!
Thanks to all the Buddys for helping out too :Thumbs-up
Last thing, I think there were 2 beemers (at least one), that had engines spectacularly explode on track. I\'m pleased to see all the "unreliable" rotary engines had no such incidents, despite 16 of them being out on track. Interesting.......
Thanks to Malcolm for being my Buddy and welcome your Buddyism at my next outing, im amazed how the fast and how the RX 8 sticks to the track around fast corners, but of course with Malcolm driving, thanks for a super day.............
Evening chaps - the plus side of an early shower for us was the chance to get around the circuit with the camera, and so got to pick up a few pics of cars well known here (click to get to the bigger versions):

Malcolm - once again thanks for putting so much effort into organising a great day. See you all next time (hopefully on the track)
Huge thanks to Malcolm for organising this and to all of you who came along to make it a great couple of days, even though things were not too great with the race car till the very last lap (I will expand on this later)
Off to watch the Daytona 500 live on the box :Thumbsup!
Malcolm,
Thanks for arranging this great track day.
The weather stayed dry and the track dried out by mid morning.
Thanks to Jaydee for \'cleaning up\' the map in my FD.
Clive, really pleased you were happy at the end of what was a very chaotic day for you.
It was great to chat with everyone who attended from the RX8 OC. As always great banter all day and lots of help offered and provided where needed.
All in all a great day.
