Title: FD gearbox
Post by: re japi on November 25, 2013, 05:09:17 PM
Few questions:

-How many different Fd gearboxes there is?
-What differenses are there?
-Can I swap parts between two different boxes?
-Is RX-8 gearbox similar or completely different?

-Is there short gear ration parts available?
    -Manufacturers?
    -Prices?

Thanks :)

Price  Manufactuer
5K = HKS
2K = OS Giken (two types one uses 2 of the original set and the other changes all gear ratios)
2K = Quaife
.1K =Standard FD3S box (there are two types - not sure of difference check RHDjapan.com)
.1K = RX8 gearbox can be used on FD3S with some mods

Various other Sequential boxes made for people, but very very expensive

its a start :)  you will have to do some reading on the manufacturers websites for more info. What do you want to use it for?

Some rx8 boxes are 6 speed.

Second hand FD box is £150, always check synchros are I fact as they often have bits missing from wear over time.

There is an OS Giken gear set, expensive but it gives you longer gearing, best to keep standard ratios and change the diff ratio IMO.

What are you thinking of using it for?

My brothers Dirtkicker FB has FD gearbox. So just looking for options. :) It might need long first gear...

Are those gear ration sets rare?

What modification it will need to get that RX-8 gearbox to fit?
