Title: Vacuum hoses. Which and where?
Post by: The dutchman on November 21, 2013, 10:05:41 PM
Hi guys.
This winter i want to replace my vacuum system on my stock \'92 touring.

Searched allot on the internet and found some different stories....

Most say take silicon hoses.

First which size hoses do i need? Some say 4 and 6mm. But some other kits in the usa contains 7 different sizes....
And what kind of lenght?

And where can i get some good hoses in this area? Most kits come from the usa.... And most of the silicon vacuum hoses i can find here have a wall thickniss of 2mm. That seem\'s a little thin...

Do any off you have experiences with Samco vacuum hoses? A good brand. But are they any good?
And the 6mm hose seems to be 6.3mm on the samco. I don\'t now if that\'s a problem?

Thanks.

Generally the wall thickness is sufficient to withstand vacuum, for that perticularly diamiter hose.
I have rev aced a couple of FD\'s now and from memory I used mainly 3mm to ensure a tight seal and a small amount of 5mm too.

Try and go for Viton lined hoses as the oil that tends to pass around will attack normal silicon in time.

You need manly 3mm inside diameter and some 6mm inside diameter.

Little tip,

You will find all the pipes connected to plastic solenoids etc, very very brittle, so use a hobby knife to slit all the old pipes off and you small cable ties to stop your new hoses popping off

Thanks for the tip Clive. Will keep it in mind for sure. :Thumbs-up

I saw a few more posts about Viton. But are quite expensive.
But are silicon hoses tben no good?  Because i see them on many rx\'s.

Arnie: will the 3 and 5 mm fit good?
