Title: First Service (coolant System Q)
Post by: ds2000 on August 02, 2004, 11:19:19 AM
Hi everyone,

I\'m going to change the oil and flush the coolant system tonight on my rex (as I don\'t know when it was last done)

Just a brief Q about the coolant system?

Probably a noobie question as well

When flushing the coolant system and draining the Rad, is there any other system that deals with the cooling of the 7 that I should be cleaning up and looking at?  Where does the intercooler come into this system?

And any recommended fluids, or just get a good grade coolant?

Thanks

Dave

Dave, the intercooler is air-cooled, so no fluids.

As for what liquids to use, well the debate could go on for ever. ;)

Most seem to recommend Redline Water Wetter, others like just normal anti-freeze.

Filling up can be a pain and take a couple of refills.

I still like the redline heavy duty stuff.  Some might not agree, but I have been using it in the cortina for the last couple of years, and I dont drive it easy. ;)

Same stuff for the gearbox and diff.

Thankyou sir :)

I\'ve managed to find the owners manuals links so hopefully I\'ll cause I little less trouble :D

Cheers!

Personally, I\'m using a 50/50 mix of green EG coolant and de-ionized water. Castrol GTX 10W40 mineral oil in the motor, Redline MT-90 in the box (to act as a bit of a buffer for my crunchy gears) and Redline 75-90 gear oil in the diff.
