Hi there everyone,
Recently bought my 1st Mazda rx7 so don\'t reali know anyone on the forum.
Looking to go to japfest 2014 next year and would like to put car on stand if possible?

How do I go about getting on stand or am I about it a bit early?

Nice :) And nice power ;)
That\'s a good looking car :mmmm
:(:(I just checked availability at the Cepen Lodge Chippenham on Fri 9th May.
LINK (http://www.premierinn.com/en/checkHotel/CHICEP/chippenham)
NO ROOMS available :2eek:2eek
I have just called the hotel and as you state Malcolm no rooms available. I was hoping to do a block booking.
The Badminton Horse Trials are on that week.
Minimum stay is 2 nights at Cepen Park, but the prices are £120.00 for the Friday night and £128 for the Saturday night :eek:
Looks like we need to source another hotel in the area asap as other people will obviously be doing the same!
:2eek Clash with major horse trials - not good!
Badminton is only about 5 miles from Castle Combe on the other side of the M4. The event is on from Wed 7th to Sunday 11th May :reallymad
Had a quick look at hotels and there is very little left in the area at ANY price, just the odd room here and there BUT, the M4 Leigh Delamere services Westbound and Eastbound are showing rooms available at the Travelodges. There is a service road out of both of these service areas to easily get to Japfest. Harrizone (Rote8), lennycarloff, I and others stayed at the Eastbound a few months back for a trackday at Castle Combe. Basic, but OK.
Website shows;
Eastbound 9th May - £60
Westbound 9th May - £46
I thought I\'d better call to find out more (0871 984 6227) and I was told availability was;
Westbound, one at £46, another 4 at £53 (that\'s it, 5 rooms)
Eastbound, 10 (possibly more) available at £60
Lisa - there is a group booking option on that telephone number and I was told (via another option) that I\'d need to use that option to see if there were any discounts. I\'ll hold back whilst others may wish to comment.
I\'d be OK with the Eastbound (or Westbound) services, but I think we\'ll have to move quick else they\'ll all be gone.
OK, so it\'s a Travelodge, but it may be our only option for miles.
I hope the OP doesn\'t mind, but I\'ve renamed this thread "Japfest 2014 General Chat" and will place some links to it. I\'ll also make it a sticky.
I\'m glad I only live 20mins from castle Combe :-)
I stopped at the Holiday Inn in Bristol, worked quite well. Only about 40mins away from the track, was about £40 for Friday night !
Shaun
ULTRA - URGENT:
Shaun, you\'ve just reminded me that I have previously stayed at the Holiday Inn Express, right on Jn 16 of the M4. We get off at Jn 17 for Castle Combe, so only one junction away. I think the hotel and car park security is a lot better at this place than the Travelodge.
This is the place;
LINK (http://www.expressswindon.co.uk/)
The good news is, rooms are currently available for just £31 on Friday 9th, continental breakfast included, but don\'t bank on getting breakfast it as we may have to leave at the crack of dawn ;) We can try and gang up on the staff on the Friday night to get something early for us!
I\'ve just spoken to Clive and we are both booking this tomorrow, booking lines have just closed BUT I managed to secure a block booking for 24 hours on NINE rooms at guaranteed £31. Rooms have to be secured with a credit card by 10pm tomorrow night (19th) else the bookings lapse.
What I suggest is this (Clive and I aside);
If you are happy to stay at this hotel, please use the link above to book your room. IF the price doesn\'t show £31, contact me asap tomorrow and I can give you a booking reference to get you a guaranteed twin or double room at £31 (so up to two people can share a room), but remember, these bookings lapse in 24 hours.
This rate is non-refundable, I think the normal rate, where you can cancel is ~£59.
Ok, so we\'ve
Many thanks Malcolm:Thumbs-up
Have just booked on line @ £31.00 for the night.
Booked standard room for the night :D
Shaun
^^ Excellent, several of us are now booked in OK :Thumbs-up
ULTRA - URGENT: LAST CHANCE
Last chance to book at guaranteed rate of £31 at the Holiday Inn Express, Swindon West, right on Jn 16 of the M4. We get off at Jn 17 for Castle Combe, so only one junction away. I think the hotel and car park security is a lot better at this place than the Travelodge.

The block booking I made has been extended for 24hrs. Rooms have to be secured with a credit card by 10pm tomorrow night (20th) else the bookings lapse.

When\'s the payments going to be started for the club stand?
I will get them sorted shortly.
I will post up when they are available via the shop.
Just giving this thread a bump and to say I\'m looking forward to this. With 19 people already paid up for a stand place, we are on track to fill 30 car stand we have booked. Should be a good variety of RX\'s to look at too!
If you haven\'t booked a place on the stand there are tickets still available in the club shop for £20 (for one car and up to 4 occupants). Don\'t leave it too late as the stand can only take 30 cars and you might miss out on the biggest Jap car event of the season :)
If you miss booking your ticket through the club then, and you can\'t get on another club stand you will need to park in the public car park in a field "off-circuit", where no-one can admire it ;)
You don\'t want to do that to your precious rotary, surely :spank
What sort of time is it best to get there
If you\'ve been before, you\'ll know how horrendous the traffic gets on the roads leading to this event. Queues taking 2 hours to get to the event are not unknown, although a lot of work has taken place between the organisers and police to try and improve road access after disastrous queues 2 years ago.
The answer is, the earlier the better, but I think we have aimed to get to the gates at around 7am in previous years. Better to be parked up and relaxed, rather than be sitting in a jam, burning fuel and overheating (car and occupants ;))
If it\'s the same as last year, gates are open from 6am.
I\'m sure we\'ll firm up details nearer the date, but the answer, whatever, is EARLY :p
And remember to set the time right on your phone for the alarm. :p
Shaun
^^^:Giggle:Giggle:Giggle especially if you\'re staying at the Guyer\'s Hotel. I\'d forgotten about that Shaun :D
This for me will be the first time im going without driving there or going on track! A chilled day of wandering about and this time i will get to see Clives car!
Hotel booked travelling down Friday evening :Thumbs-up
Presumably the £31 offer expired?
I\'ll be driving from the Hemel Hempstead area. Does anyone want to meet up on the m4 at some point, and have a convoy the rest of the way there?
Quote from: Lem;877470Presumably the £31 offer expired?
Afraid so, as we booked waaaay back in Feb ;) Just took a look and it looks like £67 for the night?
Quote from: chris_r;877546I\'ll be driving from the Hemel Hempstead area. Does anyone want to meet up on the m4 at some point, and have a convoy the rest of the way there?
Probably best if you can meet up with us at the Holiday Inn Express hotel, as it\'s right on Jn 16 of the M4. But we\'ll be leaving REALLY, REALLY early to get to Castle Combe before the traffic madness. Not sure what time yet, but will be around 6.30am at a guess.
If you PM me your contact detail (email and mobile), I\'ll send you mine and we can try and organise things nearer the day - as long as you are up for a very early start that is :)
CONVOY From the East
Just to confirm, having spoken with Clive tonight, that we plan to LEAVE to Holiday Inn Express (Swindon West) car park promptly at 6.30am. That ought to be early enough to get us to Castle Combe circuit for about 7am and should therefore avoid the worst of the jams that tend to appear in the area by ~7.30am.
If anyone wants to meet up to convoy down, the hotel is right on Junction 16 of the M4. But we\'ll be gone by 6.31am, so don\'t be late :Laugh
Anyone heading from the M4 west? Will be joining near enough at the end! (47 out of 49)
Or if anyone knows anyone from the other club who we are sharing a track session with?
Room booked at Holiday Inn for Friday 9th @ £66.99 for the night.
Guess i should be quicker off the mark for discounts haha ;)
Just wondering when the tickets and stand passes are being sent out?
Cheers
Andy
^^Tickets should now be received. If you haven\'t got yours, get in touch with Lisa.
For those staying at the Holiday Inn Express (or nearby) on the Friday night, what are we planning to do to eat that evening? The Holiday Inn does a limited menu or there is a Beefeater a short walk away with better choice. I\'m happy with either, but the Beefeater seems a better option. As it\'s Friday night and there is a group of us it might be a good idea to book a table as my experience is these places can get very busy? Say 8pm, to allow those travelling from afar to arrive?
I\'m happy to do the booking if people want - stick your name on the list asap.....
So, suggestion,;
Friday, 9th May, 8pm, Beefeater 1st preference (Holiday Inn if table not available)

I\'m afraid to say I\'m not going to get to to Japfest this year. Had quite a few issues on the wiring front and the car will not be ready in time :(
If anybody wants my ticket and track time then give me a shout. I\'ll have to cancel my room, wasn\'t all that expensive with booking it very early !
Shaun
Sorry to hear your car is not ready Shaun :(
That sucks...

Really sorry to hear you can\'t make it Sean - it won\'t be the same without you there :(
On the positive side, there is a waiting list for the track slots over on the RX8OC. Graham will want the ticket to be offered to people on that list first. Do you have an account over on the RX8OC? If so, I\'d suggest you PM Graham (G3) to say your tracktime is available and he can re-allocate. "Vaad" is next on the list and he\'ll need to Paypal you or whatever.
If you haven\'t got an account over there, perhap Ian.M might be able to let G3 know, as I\'m not going to be around much this weekend as Gwyn and I are off to a wedding :Party
Too many things went wrong on Wednesday when I got to pip, some wiring wrong, some stuff didn\'t work right.
Car was fired up but needs a couple more weeks of niggle fixes and then a re-tune. Pips away next week too !
Just the way it goes. Aiming for a trackday at Oulton as soon as the car is ready. Probably late may, early June.
I\'ll head over to RX8oc later tonight and get the ball rolling.

Sorry to hear of your troubles mate.
Good luck I\'m sure you\'ll have it all sorted soon. Anyway I was worried you may not find anyone to run over this year !!
See you at a track later this year.
Chris
Oh yes, It won\'t be all that clean and tidy till next year. It will be running though and an absolute monster !
Made me chuckle about that camera person having to rethink there position to take photos !
Have a good one guys :)
Shaun
Fingers crossed it\'s all sorted soon Shaun :)
Dinner next Friday - I couldn\'t book online ("no availability" showing) so I phoned a few minutes ago and managed to get a table for 10 people at 8.15pm, so one spare place added for any late takers. Currently then;

It\'s just a few minutes walk from the Holiday Inn Express, albeit across a dual carriageway, but "Google Earth" shows a junction with traffic lights where we need to cross (but no pedestrian crossing I can see).
Cant wait for this, A 3hr drive in the RX3 to get there is going to be fun :)
I\'ve got 3 hours of driving my Pajero to get there and I\'m not even bringing a rotary! :(
In brighter news I am using it as an excuse to shop for race-car parts. :)
Ive got a 30 min drive in the shogun to Chippenham and gonna cycle passed the q\'s to castle combe....
Hey guys, sorry haven\'t been before (been but haven\'t had my car in the show)
What\'s the plan? Just show up and plonk your car in the space? Wouldn\'t mind hiding mine a little as she\'s a little tatty, also if anyone\'s travelling along the m4 eastbound then give me a shout!
If your infield bud on the mrc stand you wanna get there early...gets very busy. aim to be at the circuit 6.30 am !
A group of us are travelling from Swindon, so westbound, aiming to get to the stand ~07.00-07.15, queues permitting!
A final reminder about key points for Japfest;
GENERAL POINTS:
1. If you are on the club stand, aim to get to the local area no later than 7am if you want to avoid massive queues. In previous years the traffic has resulted in people queuing for up to 2 hours
2. Gates are open from 6am for cars on club stands, but Clive, Lisa and myself won\'t be on stand until ~7.00-7.15am. Public entry is not until 9am.
3. Everyone on the stand should have their entry "mirror hanger" with "B4" on it. So, entrance B and the Marshall\'s will direct us to the stand. We think it\'s roughly where we were last year (for those who are returning), but could be anywhere from the Paddock area to "Quarry" corner.
FOR THOSE GOING ON TRACK:
1. For those doing the "Original", joint track session with the RX8OC, the tracktime is 11.36 (so aim to queue up about 20 mins prior). I don\'t have the briefing time, but expect it to be 10.30. TRACK PASSES HAVE TO BE COLLECTED FROM THE RX8OC STAND AND SIGNED FOR IN PERSON BY THE DRIVER. The RX8OC stand is just before Quarry corner, so I intend going down to collect mine ~8.30am, before the place gets really busy with the public entry from 9am.
2. Anyone (I and C J R certainly) who paid for an "aborted" track session back in Jan/Feb can collect a refund from Brian (Shagrington), the RX8OC Treasurer, whilst down on the RX8OC stand.
3. TRACK SESSION K (second rotary session). The track time for this is 12.30, briefing at 11.30, but remember to allow plenty of time to sign on before the briefing.THE TRACK PASSES WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR PICKING UP FROM THE MAZDA ROTARY CLUB STAND BETWEEN 8:30 and 10am. Please pick up your passes early so we can all relax. See Pete (Conann) Paula (Ppitstop) or Clive + Lisa (MRC). I will pick mine up on the way back from the RX8OC stand and then walk straight over to the Strawford Centre to sign on (so ~9.00) and then go to the first available briefing (you don\'t have to go to any specific briefing slot). Best to get this out of way early and collect your wristband to confirm you\'ve been briefed.
4. SOUND TESTING - allow plenty of time when going for your track session to queue up and get your car checked. The sound test area is usually located close to the track entry/exit, by the footbridge. I suggest those on the 11.36 session leave the stand no later than 11.00 to allow time to get through the crowds, get sound tested and queue up for the track session.
5. You only need to do the sound testing once and attend ONE briefing session, even if you have multiple track sessions.
6. If going on track - DON\'T FORGET YOUR DRIVING LICENSE (both parts if you have them) and YOUR CRASH HELMET. Remember to wear clothing that covers you arms and legs.
7. Make sure you\'ve got plenty of fuel when you arrive in the morning getting fuel during the day won\'t be easy.
I hope I\'ve covered the key points. If I\'ve missed anything important then please post up on here. I very much look forward to seeing everyone and hope the rather dismal weather forecast is inaccurate :Laugh

2. Lennycarloff
3. Steve and Michelle Garbutt
4. Clive & Lisa - Beefeater please
5. Arnie_O and Tadpole (Ryan)
^^ I assume that you mean that you Ryan would like to eat with us?
We\'ll have to wing it, as I booked a table for 10 and that would make 11. I\'m sure we can squeeze up a bit.......;)

Anyone convoying from the midlands?? Debating what time to leave! Don\'t fancy waiting in this traffic
Looks like I won\'t be coming now, as one of my coilover springs has snapped :(
Sorry that your not going. If don\'t want your ticket I will have it of you.
Sorry you can\'t make it Chris. I hope you can get the spring fixed soon.
Finished working at 9.30 last night due to lack of light and started again this morning at 7.30am.
FD now ready !!!!
I\'ll not post up any pictures yet.....I\'ll see what reaction the \'new features\' get at Japfest !!
Hope to set off early afternoon, after collecting and loading trailer.
See you there.
Chris

hey guys, very new to forums so please excuse me being completely useless!! Aston has invited me to put my r3 on your guys stand tomorrow and I just want to say a huge thankyou! So excited, even though weather os supposed to be horrible :( here is my baby, Rexy...(https://fbcdn-photos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc3/t1.0-0/10291791_10154078133180710_76381010629641583_n.jpg)
looking forward to tomorrow - even if its with a slightly unfinished car running low boost, but hey - its the being there that counts yeah??
Simom
The tatty fc is as clean as I can get it, looking forward to tomorrow! See you all there!
Just wanted to say a quick thanks to everyone for day! Had a great day and was nice to meet some of you. Everyone\'s very friendly!
Sorry to any of the 8 owners who I might of span out in front of, thought I would let you all past just encase anything happened again!
Hopefully I\'ll be along to a lot more events through the year
Morning all,
Huge thanks to every one who braved the weather to help build one of the very best stands of the whole event with an excellent showing to the public by all of you, proving what a huge variety of wonderful cars the club has from stock to heavily modified
Really hoping everyone there will come to Mazda Day at Brooklands on June 1st and then Rotorstock on August 3rd
Really great to see not only long term members of the club on the stand but also new faces with amazing cars as well
Real sorry I didn\'t get to chat to all of you about your cars due to messing around with my own car but hopefully I will see you in just two weeks time where I can have a proper look at especially the new FD,s that we\'re on the stand :chat
Well done and thank you to everyone who came along yesterday to make a great showing. Largest showing on the MRC stand for years at this event and what a great variety of cars on show. I hope someone will post up some pics as I didn\'t take my camera this year.
Sorry I didn\'t get to speak to as many people as I would have liked. The combination of weather (people hiding in cars ;)) and having to get my car sorted for three track sessions didn\'t leave much time in the morning. By the time my tracktime was over, not many people were on the stand, understandably using a break in the weather to take a look around the rest of the event.
Highlights of the day for me;
1. Seeing Clive\'s car get out on track :mmmm
2. Being on track with the Top Gear guys and overtaking Jezza (twice), Captain Slow (twice) and Hamster (only once). Never in my wildest dreams......
Look out for the next Top Gear series and look out for any Grey RX-8\'s in shot. It\'ll either be me or Dave-B, who was also out in the same session.
Thanks to everyone who showed up and make the day enjoyable despite the showers. Looking forward to meeting you again at Brooklands on June 1st ,where we will bake in the summer sun ( no really !!! ).
Great to meet you too - Phil and Jill (Gill?) if my increasingly bad memory serves me correctly? Hope to have more time to chat in the rather sunnier, but "chilled out" ;) Brooklands event.
Did you enjoy your track session - twas a bit slippy in the 12.30 slot!
The track session was a bit daunting -first in queue and first time on track since 1985!.......and in the wet.
Had the RX8 at some lurid angles which made my passenger(Neil) very quiet until the end of the session......I took that as a compliment :Giggle
My better half is indeed Gill , or the \'boss\' .
Gutted!!!!! Broke down 8 miles away on the M4! Second year running, clutch pipe or cylinder decided to let go just as I was slowing down for the traffic oh well there\'s always japfest 2
Many thanks to everyone who came and contributed to a great day. Enjoyed catching up with many of you on the stand and around the event.
Looking forward to Brooklands.
Chris
Fats - sorry to hear of your bad luck on way to JP; see you at JP2 :Thumbs-up
C J R - great to see you and Tina again. Hope your extra day around Bristol was enjoyable and looking forward to seeing you on track at JP2 (after the quieter exhaust mod ;)).
Gutted for you yesterday chris hope you get it sorted for brooklands.
Had a great day nice to make some new friends on the stand.
Going to to the event with my sons made it even better.
Fantastic day.
Just wondering if anyone wants any digital images from the official track photographers? One of my friends has a decent printer so I was going to buy a couple digital images and get him to print them off, but notice on the photography uk order form is £25 for 2-10 images, I was going to just get the lot of me as it\'s no extra cost after 2, so that leaves me on 6. Anyone want the other 4 shots and chip in? Would only be £2.50 for 1 digital image if there\'s 10 ordered.
Daniel, have you got a link to the official photos?
Edit; no problem, found them now and looking through - caught your spin well on camera!
Well the wife and me had a fantastic time, didnt stop telling people about the RX3 all day and it had so much attention we were well chuffed :)
The 4.5 hr drive back was ok if not a little wet.
Very please with how the day went and how the 1973 RX3 drove for its 1st long journey since 1978 :)
Such a nice car Steve! Was nice to actually see one in the flesh for once!
