Title: Strange rear end \'knock\'
Post by: johnf on August 01, 2004, 08:42:10 PM
Will be having a garage look at this tomorrow just wondered if I gave the symptoms out someone may have an idea where to look first.

I have a knock from the rear nearside, worse for the first five miles or so. Can\'t tie it down to suspension, power or braking.

Sounds like something is loose.

Checked the exhaust and that the wheels are on tight, it\'s not that either.

Over to you guys :D

so it wasn\'t consistant when it did it with relation to speed, braking or going over bumps then just totally random?

That\'s right Si - Happens from when I slowly move off, forwards or backwards.

Doesn\'t seem to happen over speed bumps just clunks as I go along in no particular circumstances, just happens less the further I go.

I have got something similar on mine.  Sounds like it comes from the left rear on mine.  The garage I got the car from said it was the front left suspension arm and replaced it for me.

Still had the knocking and contacted the previous owner.  Can’t remember what 2 option where recommended to him but he had the cheaper one done.

Was also suggested that the bolts on the anti-roll bar could be ever so slightly loose. Will check if I get time tonight. Also a nagging thought that someone said it could be pillowball bushes??? (unless I’m getting confused, also said that they weren’t cheap)

Hope this helps, Ricco

My garage suggested it may be the rear anti-roll bar bush as it\'s more noticeable after a few dry warm days. Hardly notice it at all in the wet.
