Here is an extract/
THIS CONVERSATION COULD BE CONSIDERED THE START OF THE ADVENTURE. ONE DAY IN NOVEMBER 1973, TWO MEN WERE TALKING AT THE FOOT OF THE KOGETSU-IN TEMPLE IN THE CITY OF OKAZAKI...
They were discussing the future of Japanese motor sport. One of them was Takayoshi Ohashi, a key figure in this book. He recalls: "We spoke for hours before coming to the conclusion that to reach a good technical level, we had to get to know the world motor sporting scene immediately and stay in contact with it. If we wanted to set ourselves a challenge, we had to do so in a top-class event. The Le Mans 24 Hours was without doubt the most prestigious and the toughest race. It seemed to be a rather presumpuous and daring aim, but we said \'lets try it anyway\'. As we walked down the temple steps i felt a shiver run down my spine. And i dont think it was only due to the early-winter cold wind!"
Ordered, thanks for the heads-up!
(Note for others - it\'s the same price on Amazon, but delivery is cheaper so works out slightly lower).
Got mine, but building up my strength to open it up:Giggle , its a HUGE book:chat.
I wonder how much it would cost if they send me one of those... ;) Ill tryed to find some info about that, but I didnt found any...
Ordered a copy today - thanks for the heads up Clive :cheers
Mine arrived today :)
I\'d never have paid £80 for it, but well worth the £33.99 :Thumbs-up It\'s huge and weighs a ton!
Very well packaged. Book inside sealed in cellophane so I\'m going to ask Gwyn to give it to me as a Christmas gift, so they\'ll be no peaking at it before Christmas day and I\'ll have it to look forward to!
Finished reading it today. Really enjoyed it, there\'s some really nice details about life inside the team, and it\'s a much longer story than the one or two year campaign that I previously knew.
And the pics are great, really draw you into the scene.
Difficult to say how much it\'s worth to another person really. Personally I\'d say it\'s worth trying to get it shipped to Finland or wherever if you\'re interested.
Finished reading it last week. For a Mazda or Rotary enthusiast it\'s a fantastic thing to own; for the great story and pictures. The text isn\'t that well written, but I\'m guessing it was written in a foreign language and has been translated at least once or twice :Giggle
I was hoping for more about the design of the Le Mans winner, but Nigel Stroud barely got a mention. I don\'t know if he had fallen out with Mazda and/or Dieudonne.
The book covers the campaigns well but the writer is a driver so maybe the techie bits were of less interest.
I hope Carl is enjoying my old copy!!
