Does anybody have any experience of removing the speedo sending unit from the side of the gearbox on an FD?
I have removed the single retaining nut and I can rotate the body of the sender unit, but I cannot pull it out of the gearbox housing. I have tried jiggling, levering, tapping, swearing, but it will not pull out. I am kind of wondering whether it is forming a hydraulic lock and if draining the transmission fluid would help (probably be a good idea anyway on reflection).
Would welcome any advice from anybody who has tried this before. I have done a fair bit of Google searching on this topic and very little information out there. :xconfused
Even the workshop manual only shows it pulls out. Not much detail shown at all.

Uhm...This is all starting to look a little more awkward than I at first thought. To drain transmission fluid and then replace, the car has to be level, so you have to jack up both ends of the car and by all accounts it\'s a little tricky getting the transmission fluid back into to the gearbox. I\'m assuming that I do need to drain the gearbox fluid before removing the speedo sender unit??? Is there nobody out there who has any experience of this operation? Some guidance would be highly appreciated. :yes
Surely somebody in the club has had similar problems, or maybe I\'m just unlucky and the Speedo sender unit is generally the most reliable part on the entire car. Starting to seem that way!
In all the years I\'ve been on the club (about 10 now !) I haven\'t really seen any issues with the speedo sender.
Does it still not want to come out ?

Well...I haven\'t tried again yet... Thought I\'d wait for all the helpful advice to flood in first. :Hammer :rollin
