I\'ve seen a few Fd\'s in and around basildon lately. Just wondering if it\'s anyone on here.
I saw a Red one a few weeks back following a Silver Honda Prelude, twice in the same night.
A black one in Wickford, Rumwell road i think.
A black one with shopping list and monster rear wing yesterday.
A black one without a spoiler.
I\'m in a blue coop and looking to have a crack at any of you :D
Hi ya Trappy, im based in Basildon too! im not a rotary owner sadly tho :(
I can\'t say i\'ve seen Fds as yourself recently! I\'ll look out for your blue coop ;)
I\'ve seen the black one with no spoiler a few times lately, normally on my way to work (in a transit). What do you drive mate?
I\'m in and out of Wickford quite a bit .......................
(Runwell)
Or myself, I have a shopping list on the doors!:rollin

Just seen it again. 5:45 at roundacre BP garage in Basildon.
Black, shopping list on the side and trolley handle on the boot!! :D
Was gonna turn round for a pursuit but i was already on the road to the hospital :(
Ahh alas it wasn\'t me - cos I\'m sad and stuck infront of the PC!!
On the way to hospital - hope it\'s nothing serious:(
Nah, i wasn\'t going to the hospital, just on that road that leads up to the roundabout that the hospital is on.
I was after a toyota celica that looked a bit fruity off the roundabout!!
Ah... glad to hear it mister!:D

We were there around about that sort of time Sat afternoon...still not sure though that Initial D isnt impersonating us in and around Baz.

Red FD on cranes farm lst night at 10:45ish?
You had a Blue Fiat Coupe 20vT behind at the start of a roundabout and were a few lengths behind at the end of the straight!! :D
That REX needs looking at cos i was 2 up as well!
Maybe a nackered uk spec?
You on here, or does anyone know of a red in the area?
Has anyone seen a red "L" reg RX7 around the basildon area. I whipped him again last night in a standard coupe 20v Turbo and i mean whipped. He was barely quicker than a 2.0 Focus, Astra GTE16v and R5GT-turbo that joined in too!
He pulled up next to me at the lights but wouldn\'t look over. I was gonna send him your way. Made a funny clattery sound and smelled like neat petrol... Is that nackered tip seals?
I\'d really like him to sort it out so i can have a go against a healthy rex!
Hi, I\'ve got the black gen3 RX with no spoiler........ work in Basildon, live in Southend so travel the 127 daily........ Up for any challenge though........ but car is now for sale is nothing too lairy!!
Thats the one! haha.
When i have seen you its normally turning right up (blah blah PM for details) I leave a bit later now, 7:45 (and i\'m in my dads transit anyway) so i don\'t see you any more.
There are a lot of meaty motors that i regularly see in that area. Couple of scoobs (both blue, one only new WRX) and a guy from the coop forum with a red 20v turbo. Wish i could drive to work in my car and play with them on the way to work, a little detour up (cough couch edit) would be great!
(edited by Si to remove details of where when)
just edited yer post mate to remove details of where & when it maybe found as per sticky at top of this section just to avoid any potential issues n all that (http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0304/traurig/sad-smiley-011.gif)

Saw a black fd with yellow foggies, i believe, the other day. Was going past sainsbury\'s A127 bound. I doubled back to catch up but had presumably gone onto the A127 (the opposite way to the copper that was in front of you...). I shot down the Arterial but couldn\'t see you. You must have turned off at the A130???
Looked very clean, nice \'n\' shiny!
Oi Trappy, do you really think your car is in the same leauge as an RX??!
A healthy Rex would eat your car for breakfast. I have a UK spec L reg red RX. Bring it on!!!
:bandit
:burnout
:3gears-rh
:flamed
I do hope you are joking!! ;)
Where in Essex? Lets meet up! Is your car standard, if it is i really wouldn\'t bother...
What colour is it and are you ever near basildon?
I saw a lovely Silver Rex with a bodykit turning onto Heron Retail park last week. Sounded good too, anyone on here?
I live near Gants Hill. You wanna know if my car is standard or not you\'re gonna have to find out the hard way. But i don\'t usually waste my fuel against cars like yours.
:burnout :flamed
Saw a Yellow Rex on the A132 in basildon last week. Forgot to post it on here. It had the most wild bodykit i\'ve ever seen on it! Looked good too!
Are you serious, you don\'t waste your fuel on cars like mine? Exactly what would you consider worthy then?
Do you know anything about the coupe 20VT?
I remember someone saying the UK spec 3rd gen did the 1/4 mile in 14.6 secs in a road test against the escort cossy. That\'s the same as the coop, with a front-wheel drive pull away.
0-60 6 secs
0-100 14.5 secs
30-70 5.4 secs
50-70 in 5th 6.2 secs
1/4 mile 14.6 @100
0-1000 metres 25.9 @126
220bhp @ 5750
228lbs/ft @ 2,500
Mine came out at 220bhp @6,283rpm
216lbs/ft @3,900rpm
At Power Engineering with a knackered throttle cable. I\'ve added K&N 57i and DV26 since then. The most powerful coop had 480bhp... Waste your petrol on that Fccuker!
Check out the forum http://www.fccuk.org/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?Cat=
Fraid the yeller one was me:D aint just the body kit though:bandit
220? is that at the wheels or fly iether way you would be toast againt a rex .............. come to that any rotary:cool
If you like the FD aint it about time you got yerself a propper motor and not some toy?
see even the Yella Fella knows that you\'d be toasted against a Rex. And if that\'s the most powerful coupe at a moddest 480bhp, you don\'t even wanna know what the most powerful rotary can produce!!! :D
Anyway going back to what a worthy challenger would be.....
.....Porsche Carerra, BMW M3 (new one), Maseratti Spyder, TVR\'s any of these would be a good challenge for a REX!!
I\'ve raced against these cars and had fun, against you, you wouldn\'t see me after 60mph, i\'d have to slow down and wait for you to catch up!!! :cool
Trappy, is you high or something?
Even with my 16 stone sitting next to Dre you be lucky to read his numberplate after 60......
If you wanted to make it closer I suppose he could tow you with us? But you may need a few G-force tests cause I doubt you\'ve been that fast before.........wouldn\'t want you being sick over that lovely cloth interior........
PEACE!! :rollin
Oh my god, I never thought \'scooby driver ignorance\' would spread to this forum. I suppose with prices falling the rabble soon takes a foothold... shame
Dre, i like the way you "had fun with that list of cars". In other words they roasted you, Haha
I too have kept up with a two new M3s, nothing in it. Wasted a Holden HSV destroyed a 3rd gen, a number of times and mine is near bog standard. Ok the rex was \'only\' a uk spec. :D
Check out this site.
http://basingstokedemons.co.uk/askracing/versus.asp
I\'m not gonna start slagging off the Rex, i think its a great car, thats why i\'m on here! Its proved just a little too impractical for my needs so I bought the coop.
A Type-R is slightly quicker standard than a coop, a UK spec is not.
I\'m more than willing to prove it too... Blast down the A13?
Trappy instead of proving it on the A13, prove it down Santa Pod instead, and post your timing slip on here, I doubt if you will hit 15 seconds or under on the quarter mile. A type R RX7 is much quicker then your Coupe, 13.6-14.0 quarter depending on the driver. Thats like night and day in terms of distance on the strip.

bbbbbuuuuutttt iiii jjjjust realised i\'m gonna get my ar5e handed to me on a big silver platter.......
All comes out in the end.......
LOL!
:evillaugh
Mate you got to come back down to reality and realise that yes your car maybe quick for a front wheel drive turbo 20v thingy but when it comes to playing with the big boys with big hp rwd cars you just got to accept the fact that your car cannot compete in this class and step out of the ring before you get hurt!!
Blitz boys knows the score, being an FD owner.
so lets, end this nicely with a thank you and goodbye!! See you down the strip!!:wave
p.s. a new M3 does 0-100mph in 10.4 secs compared to your Fiat\'s 15.0 secs.
I think for every 0.1 its a car length or something like that, so do the maths Trappy and realise that he was probably still in 5th gear when you were trying to race him!!
Right then, i\'m not even gonna bother with you 1 post a month boys cos you haven\'t got a clue. Actually i will.
"Each 0.1 sec equates to a length or something like that"
LMAO :rollin
Go away. Here\'s how you work it out. 10mph equals just under 5 m/s.
At the quarter mile the Rex Type- R and Coop pass the line at very near 100mph each. A one second gap @100mph therefore equals around 45 metres. The coop comes in 0.6 seconds later, about 28 metres.
As those that are worth speaking to are aware, Front wheels drive cars really suffer when pulling away from a standstill, i.e. at the pod.
It\'s supposed to reduce 0-60 by around 0.5 secs compared to a bhp @ the wheels/ tonne front-engined rear wheel drive car. The tonne would prob be similarly affect, maybe 0.8 secs slower.
A rear engined car would be quicker still and a 4wd car even quicker.
As most of you would claim a scooby has an advantage over you.
Consider also that a Front Wheel drive car (and rear engined) doesn\'t lose as much power between the fly-wheel and the wheels. As those worth talking too would already know.
The best way to compare performance would therefore be from a rolling start. Preferably on a long straight road that could be considered to be safe at around 120 leptons. I.e. the A13!!!
The fact that a UK spec RX7 passes the 1/4 mile at the same time as a coop 20vT at 93mph (as opposed to 100mph) proves that the coop is catching ( and has actually caught it) and is therefore FASTER!!!!
It \'isn\'t\' as fast as a Type-R but it is a lot closer than a lot of you would like to think.
I haven\'t \'Slagged\' off the RX7 and never would.
Trappy by name Trappy by nature:rollin
Face it you have a FWD sports car that at best produces 220 brake and is a similar weight, that is 20ish brake down on a UK car [only 120 odd in the country] and 45 down on a stock jap speck [forget about R1, R2 ect, they all produce the same power] If you are going to spout numbers please get them right:reallymad
Please go and play with the other chav cars
I know what your getting at, as i have a 300bhp 205 (Fwd and only 800kg) once both cars are rolling (40mph
) the 205 will kill my rex up too about 100mph or so.
But it wont beat it off the line or top end, its not as fast full stop but it can give a good fight. Its pointless trying to say your cars faster at 45-80mph at 5pm on a saturday going downhill, whats the point its only a split secound.

On the 13/03/05 several of the guys from the coupe club will be down santa pod with quite a few of us from the 200sx owners club, it will be a fun day if you want to pop down and put in some good times....................
Dont think we will have any big power 200s there but should be several capable of low 13\'s........ and looking at their site, there may be a 12 second fiat coupe there......

I\'m well aware of the figures.
237bhp for the uk spec
255bhp for the jap
265 for the Type-R
until 97-98 when the cranked it up to 280bhp.
All of which had around 212 lbs/ft
of torque, the 280bhp models even less?
Don\'t forget you have about 15 lbs/ft less torque... and we have it from 3,000 rpm, right through the rev band.
I didn\'t get the numbers wrong at anytime...
Wonder if any of the Rex\'s in the coop vs ........ section are on here...
QuoteOriginally posted by Trappy
I\'m well aware of the figures.
237bhp for the uk spec - correct
255bhp for the jap - correct
265 for the Type-R - from 96 all manual cars had this
until 97-98 when the cranked it up to 280bhp. Not so 280 was available from 99 on the RBS & RS + Spirit R
All of which had around 212 lbs/ft
of torque, the 280bhp models even less? not so
Its a shame you cant get this into your head you are driving a FWD car with a 0 - 60 time of around 6secs a UK spec FD is 5.8 Jap spec 5.2 Jap spec with 265+ 4.9, breeth on them and you will see 4.2 without to much trouble.
I have no doubt you had \'whooped\' an FD at the end of the day it comes down to the driver ability and weather they can be bothered especialy on public roads.
I know this much though park yer self up at a meet / cruse I know which car is going to grab the interest ............. and it aint going to be a Fiat
:rollin :rollin
look lets end all this now Trappy, you talk a good race but in reality you\'re just another FWD coupe that\'ll get eaten and spat out!!!
I can\'t believe you want a rolling start race between 35-85mph or whatever it was. That don\'t mean sh*t!! On Topgear they road tested a FWD Saab that was brilliant between 30-70mph but when the Stig took it out on track it posted crap lap time.
Bottom line is, in a drag race an RX will kill you, on a track day on a race around a circuit i\'ll lap you!!! And if i see you on the street i\'ll roast you :flamed
Let it go Trappy, the Fiat is a good car but it\'s not a true sports car like the REX!!!
:bandit
I\'d like a rolling start please..........but i\'ll be in 5th with my foot flat on the floor and i\'ll win because my FIAT is a front wheel dive and you won\'t be able to catch me.......
You complete fool........
Sorry to get annoyed peeps but why oh why do some people have to argue the to$$ when they realise they\'ve dropped one and can\'t hold their hands up and say, \'Sorry, I only get let out at weekends and i\'m wrong\'
Crappy, back off, back down and back away.....you\'re out matched, out breaked and out classed......
Peace........
calm down folks we\'re all special in our own ways just some are more in a minibus licking way :rollin lol
We all like good cars & it is quite funny to see a thread in here that seems to be common on every other board.....
Si
Tee hee.
My last car was a standard 20vT coupe, my current car is a standard FD TypeR.
I know which is faster/a better drive. I have definately upgraded.
I hate front wheel drive it sucks!
However .. I\'ll stick up for the scrabble on this matter. I have been on a trackday with some of the Fiat Coupe lads, they are a nice bunch, and the speed of the cars did surprise me. The SXOC had a SantaPod shootout and depending who you talk too .... well it was pretty even. They quite easily mod to 250/300 BHP with bags of Torque from the 5-pot 20VT, and despite scrabbling off the line get high terminals. ie a stage 1 coupe with 260bhp and 280lb/ft will run a 14.0 @ 106mph. 200SX with 270/270 would run 13.9@104mph.
See Close ;)
Dont discount them, they are fast, and as stated was even on the track with me. I wont say I cant drive, or I can, but heres a vids of me @ Elvington if you want to make your own conclusion.
http://www.suicidesquad.co.uk/sm/sxoc/Elvington%20Nov04/
at Bruntingthorpe I couldnt lose the fastest of the fiats, and he couldnt lose me, we had a great day out, lots of fun. We were both running similar power ~270bhp.
Hello everyone concerned in this "discussion". First things first, I dont really have anything too constructive to add to this thread, but why let that stop anyone. Any car can be fast. Just depends on what has been done to it. There are some insane front wheel drive cars doing crazy things in several countries at the moment and there are also rear wheel drive cars being stupidly quick. Why cant we all except this? I reckon that anyone who says that their car is the fastest thing out and doesnt provide proof is just being over zealous. When the clutch drops......you know the rest.
I personally subscribe to about 4 forums due to the fact I love heaps of different kinds of cars. I did think it was quite interesting that when I logged on tonight to see who was online to see that there were about 20 guests looking at this thread.
So thanks trappy. You have stirred up heaps of interest from non- forum members. Hope you hang about.
cheers, michael.

Very true, but the thread doesnt really do justice to all the nice RX7 owners out there
No point in getting personal, a car enthusiast is a car enthusiast, just get yourselves on the track ;) and have some fun....
Hopefully we will see lots of you guys at the pod and on various tracks this year :cool

Where in the above did Trappy deserve this! The guy was admiring a car and you get all fast and furious about it. lol. I know for a fact that most rex drivers aren\'t like you!

Nowhere. There are some stinking attitudes on this thread and it doesn\'t reflect well on the MRC at all. You should be ashamed of yourselves!
Ashamed??
I think not.......
An opinion was voiced and then argued and we were merely stating the facts to put it right......
If you\'re gonna try to have a pop at an RX then we were just saying, get the figures right before you start playing that game.....
Yeah front wheel drive\'s can be fast, but it\'s a different game with rear wheel drive........the feel, steering, even the way you have to drive!!
Admittiedly it did get slightly out of hand but like you say, we are all enthusiasts so it was bound to happen.....
I\'m not appologising, i\'m just clarifying......
Peace........
Seen a silver Rex with a similar bodykit to John Yorke\'s a few times this week. He was parked next to a silver prelude over Festival Leisure the other day, bonnets up.
The Red one that i beat a while back used to hang around with a silver prelude. Maybe the guy has got a new one?
Is it anyone on here?
Also saw a Black FD down Hadleigh this afternoon.
I\'d never say front wheel drive is better than rear weel drive, indeed I never did. Hell, I also drive an \'H\' Reg Mazda Roadster. Much more fun to drive than the coop on a sunny day down a windy road. Handling doesn\'t get much better.
The coop was initially a compromise. I wanted something bloody quick, that looked good. It came down to the two but in the end:-
I couldn\'t afford the 13 miles/gallon of the rex.
FDs are far more expensive at the same age and mileage (prob double) and a fare bit more expensive to run
I can\'t garage it so I needed something a bit more understated (all that extra attention can sometimes be undesired).
I needed decent sized rear seats for the kids and me mates.
Fd specialists (of the time) were far too far from my place to be useful to me.
Powerfiat (one of the best coop specialists in england) is within a mile of my house!
Since i\'ve bought it i\'ve raced cars that were miles beyond the scope of the MX5 and now i simply want to have a quick run with a healthy FD. Comfortably outran an N reg M3 this afternoon up the A130 (286bhp- smoking a bit)
Will tell you what happens when i finally meet this silver rex on the road...
First of all... a few months ago I decided to buy some fun... test drove lots... RX7, Scooby WRX, Alfa 3L Turbo GTV, Brand new Alfa GT, 200SX and a beautiful old Ferrari Dino... but when I drove the Coop 20VT just made a connection and bought it... OK so I would have had the Dino if my finances had of stretched;) Reading this thread I\'m sure some of you guys are saying... what a Pr@t! But hey... I\'m a happy Pr@t... some guys like blondes, others prefer brunettes:p
Anyway... back on thread.... it always surprises me how so many people think they can get in a fast car, point it and automatically get performance spec out of it! It\'s about both car and driver... or am I just missing something? Looking at the Coop and RX7 specs I\'d say it would be a good race depending on driver ability and road conditions. My father-in-law used to do some rallying (used to have a Mrk1 Ford Works Escort... The LVX).. I\'d say give him a 175BHP slider thingy and he\'d whoop my ass in either the Coop or the RX7. Even better... get on a real test... a windy road in the Donegal hills and I\'d be just finishing as he is having his third pint of Guinness in the pub!
The moral is... drive, feel the buzz and smile... I know I do in my coop. ;)
Saw the silver RX again, this time on Timberlog lane near vange on me way home from work in the van :(
Looked bloody amazing. I can\'t believe you aren\'t on this forum!
Sounded really good too...
Saw the yella fella again last night. Monday at 8pm on the way towards the A127 from wickford (A132).
Was in the coop but didn\'t see it in time to flash/ bib. Tried to turn as soon as poss to pursue but had to go right down the the roundabout with the BP garage on...
Flew over to Festival cos i figured that was the most likely destination for someone heading that way but didn\'t see you again :(
I got a new chip the other day and have been looking forward to an encounter even more :D . Up to around 250-260bhp now.
I drew with a burgundy evo 8 from 10-110 last week...
p.s. you\'ve got a rear light out ;)
Nice car Trappy, always liked those coops. Good handling too so i hear.
By the way, do you own a Burberry cap?
Handling is only \'better than you\'d think\', not really good IMHO.
Had a run with the silver Rex at last. Off the roundabout at the pitsea end of Broadmaine, he zipped away and turned down the road to pitsea. Followed and quickly became aware of two more cars following. A seat Ibiza cupra thing and a punto GT with noisy dumpvalve and funny flat exhausts
Onto the straight he was flat out, pulling two lengths out of me in second and into third. Sounded a bit raspy, not very healthy. Then the punto flew past perhaps level with it. Approaching the long sweeping left hander the rex is gone, the punto remaining nice and flat through the bend matching my pace and the Seat is all over me. Approaching the roundabout under the A13 they all turn left heading for McDonalds (maybe they have the burberry caps ;) ) so i left them to it.
Oh... and I was in the Mx5, if I had been in the coop i would have destroyed all three, indeed the SEAT has already fell victim to it on three occasions :D
Yellow at Laindon Shopping centre last night. You were parked by the phone boxes... anyone on here?
I\'ve never seen someone post so many posts up in the \'Was it you\' section... Trappy, I think you\'ve earned "Rex Spotter" status. Do you have a note book of where you\'ve seen RX7\'s and a list of their VIN numbers? :rollin
I\'m just teasing mate, no offence intended - it\'s just suprising that you see so many. I see a Rex once every 2-3 weeks if I\'m lucky.
All the best,
Jon
Lol, just logged in to post another!!
On the A130 (new one) Chelmsford bound. Didn\'t see a reg or anything, was either black or dark green....
I always keep an eye out on the road for sporty motors and rexs stand out from a mile away!
Could have been me, what day/time ?
Er... 2:45/ 3:15 ish??? Monday afternoon I reckon...
Saw a black FD heading onto the A127 at the wickford turnoff. Pursued up the slip road but you weren\'t interested. Distinctive purple ring round the zorst, looked nice.
Saw the black one with shopping list and trolley handle on the back again last night (you know who you are!!). You were heading along the A132 towards Whitmore way. I shot up behind but you didn\'t seem interested. I changed into fourth and then you went for it. Sounded really nice, zippy but not tinny. Best word to describe it would be... \'useful\'. The sound really is captured well on GT4 methinks...
Approaching a roundabout you/he kept a big gap between himself and the car in front. I thought it was gonna go flat out round the twisty bits so I crept up the inside to minimise my disadvantage but he turned off... Damn, thought I was finally gonna have a go with a proper one.
I was feeling confident that day after turking a 4.0 chimera a scooby and a 300xz too... :)
Trappy should be spotter of the year!! SOM1 GIVE HIM A MEDAL OR SOMTHING... i havnt seen an fd in about 5 months,(apart frm my own ofcourse :p!) ive seen more murcielago\'s then rex\'s!!!!!
trappy likes to race other cars on public roads...very clever indeed.
Get your car on a track trappy and grow up!
I\'d quite like trappy to come race me.........
There\'s a new RX7 in toen now. Red without a spoiler and it looks imo better for it!
Seen it 5 times in a month so a tear-up is imminent...
As for the track thing, there\'s no way I\'m gonna pay £150 to go and slaughter a pair of £90 tyres and cook £100s worth of brakes pads, possibly discs too. You\'ve gotta be mad in my book. Rather a quick 15 sec tear-up up a double laned, quiet dual carriageway. If anyone wants a tear-up plan it I don\'t care. I was gonna go to your Dick Turpin meet a few months back but my manifold cracked and sounded like a type-writer!
p.s. had a run with a supra on the A127. 70-140 leptons was dead level...
Three times so there\'s no way my motor would get hammered by a standard rex. One final note. A guy on our forum got slaughtered by a rex FROM 120. Anyone on here?
So what do you think your 0-60 is then Trappy? What other forum you on?
You have to be careful on the A127 lots of traffic cops with speed guns!
my 0-60 is prob around 5.7... crap but it is front wheel drive! Difficult to quote any acceleration increments that aren\'t crippled by being front wheel driven... 0-100 etc... Standard 30-70 is 5.4. Would get the stop watch out but the speedos on these things are way out apparently... :(
Cars with similar mods run 14.1 at the pod...
My forum is mentioned loads of times in this thread. //www.Fccuk.org
We often have people having a tear-up with RX7s in our Coupe vs ??????? thread. Sometimes our guys win, other times they lose. Would be good to see the other guys side of the same story.
You should have a Vs thread on here, bet you\'d have some monster stories with the big powered ones! EVERYONE will have a quick go on the road if they have powerful cars.
I saw yet another RX the other night, lol. White or yellow (difficult to tell at night under yellow lights!) in McDonalds carpark in Pitsea under the A13  Big bodykit... not so nice looking this time.
