Title: 5th gear not engaging
Post by: cuzzfd3s on September 08, 2013, 11:55:58 PM
Just like the title says really.

Took it out this morning and first 4 gears were perfect. Put the gear-stick in 5th which feels fine but lift clutch and accelerate and nothing.  Engine revs like it\'s in neutral even though the gear-stick is in 5th! Help again!!! :(

Even though I don\'t know  what model it is, it sounds like a selector fork screw has come undone on the shaft.

There is a small chance that the gear leaver has come loose or something and not allowing the gear to move but I would have thought you would have lost reverse as normally you pull the leaver across the same way

Thanks Clive.

Sorry I didn\'t mention its an FD, standard 5 speed gearbox. Reverse is defo working fine, along with first 4 forward gears. Just 5th being annoying.

i can check the gear stick from the top myself, but if its a selector fork screw i assume that\'s a gearbox out job?

Did you diagnose the problem? What was the fix?
