It was on ebay a few weeks back....despite a 8 hour round trip...i went for a look and left undecided....We had some conversations and i was able to do a bit more research and i secured the car a little less than advertised....The seller was very genuine and had been racing for 20 + years and has used it for a double header this year with class wins.
In fact 1 of my mates went to school with him and said he was a good egg....small world.

The engine i believe went in 2011/12 by a previous owner and he had noise issues, as race regs noise limits are higher this does not poise a problem......it has a day use mot....and i took it up the road and its raw....scared the living daylight outta me tbh.

I have 2 inches of history on the car inc. build manual, all the mots from westfield and the RX8 donor..and can put mileage on engine at 64000...there is a good comp test in 2011. Not bothered bout engine anyways as will put a fresh rebuild in for next year! And keep this engine as a spare.

Its tatty in places..but its a race car...everything\'s in date...with quality components.

The full Rx8 loom is in there so i will be tackling that to keep the electrical gremlins at bay.

The axle is english .....and a tad concerned long time exposure to this power will put a nail in its coffin...but have some plans for that as well.

Was going to enter last race at combe on 5th Oct but is a very short time away...and feel it would be putting (me) a kitten in with the lions....so its test days first to learn the car and have a few jobs anyway.

Pictures to follow...

A mate popped round...and we tested the sound....105dB at 4500 revs....sounds awesome...not gonna get me on any airfield track days though....
Theres plenty of room for a wider diameter exhaust to get the noise down and ill keep this 1 for racing.

Well some good news and bad.....Finished work and knew of a local airfield track day that was going on so decided to take my lid and swing by on the off chance of a blast....

109 dB at 6750 revs LOL ! So we have some extensive silencing todo!

So went for a drive on the public highway instead..

But on a positive note....hot started her 5 plus times all good instant start! All levels good no usage and no misfire.....so although some mileage on the engine she has no issues to speak of. Temps were good as well....fans only cut in when left running standing.

Scared to drive hard on road as its so raw and need to get heat into tires and brakes.

Its unlike anything i\'ve driven before and track is where it belongs.

It goes like a scalded cat. But bumpy!

And with no windscreen....with a muck spreader coming the other way not a lot of fun when cow turd hits you in the face...

Bet it goes like a napalmed whippet.  The torque spread of the RX8 motor is good so you\'ll have great response.  It must have very little exhaust silencing to be that loud.

Its a piddly silencer not much bigger than a motorbike can...hopefully can get the noise down...else i wont be able to explore its and my limits on an airfield....It\'ll have to be combe  test days which is not ideal....allot different to my colt lol!

There are plenty of RX8 exhausts around and I\'m yet to find one that\'s really loud.  I reckon you could cobble something together from various bits that would keep it below 100 db.

Mods ...prob best to move to projects section or shall i start a new thread...

or i could have my own subsection...WESTORY! LOL.

Been a good day tinkering.
Coils all good no sign of earthing out and look new as seller said and magnecor KV85 leads.
Been measuring exhaust and sending pics to specialist for a repackable bespoke silencer...manifold is longer than needs to be so i\'m suspecting he is gonna suggest shorting in order to fit a longer silencer...and noise was the issue the previous owner had.
Done another code read and nothing new in there so all good....found the ecu it is in a plastic lunch box in the front of the car!!!!

Downloaded manual and software for Digital dash.

Fully checked over the axle and sent some piccies to a mate as no clue as whether its up to the job..and he said its a nice set up coilovers and all the correct bracing bars polybushed etc. ...apparently very desirable to the mk2 escort boys!

On the hunt this evening for a new seat ....thinking of a kirkley 1 as should give me an inch extra legroom.....removed some padding from bottom of rollbar greatly improved access for my right foot to accelerator!

Sump has slight weap..no biggy.

Exhaust is priority.

Been out for a blast today on way to race exhaust manufacture....alot nicer to drive with lid on...nullifies the noise. Anyways shes up the ramp... getting a new manifold and 7" repackable silencer. Fingers x ill get less than 100dB.

On way some lads came the otherway in traffic in an old evo....they gave it some revs as they saw me....I got dropped jaws and thumbs up as I unleashed the Westorys 109 dB on them....lol. gave that set up a good send off..
Ill post some pics when I get her back.

Got the bus home. First time been on 1 in 20 years. Spent an hour in the shower.

Car is Back from Torque Designs in Salibury:god....Mick done a fantastic job...so much quieter  and fantastic to drive....i can hear the revs rise and now no when to change up instinctively.....I\'m ecstatic in fact whole different car to drive.

I had a quick noise test at 6750....and circa 100 dB so fingers crossed a track day soon.

It has the edge on acceleration of my old fd all day long reminds me of my old 900 fireblade goes like a stink.

Ill post up some pics and noise vid soon.

MMMM.... bridge or peripheral port rebuild??????:D:burnout:3gears-rh:chat:chat

Nice!  Currently I think that Haywards are the only people with a Bridged Renesis running well.  Apparently it sharpens up the mid-range quite nicely.
