Having a right old problem saving at the moment and its only big things I need to get now,
This leads me on to a question, obviously I am going single turbo but they hardly ever come up for sale in kit form in a suitable size and it gets expensive buying induvidually,
I can\'t get my ecu until I have the turbo and etc etc
So what have you guys got that was the best bang for buck, I like everyone else wants to have a low rev qui k spooling turbo that will give the best power throughout the rev range (I know there is no such thing) but seriously what should I be looking at? The car won\'t be a daily driver so fuel figures and drive ability don\'t bother me too much but it will never really be dragged or tracked, I just want a big power street car,
For that I figure I need between 4-450 hp ( I have had 300-350hp before now and got bored) so what do you guys think, I need cheap but powerful and reliable ?
I suppose it the holy grail question what the best Rex turbo for the price,
What\'s your budget?
GT35 is the sure winner for your power goal for sure
Well so far I have spent all my money on supporting mods, fuel rails etc and my budget is part of the question, I am saving for something that I\'m not sure what I need to get,
I see kits go for around £1400 which I think is a little steep but they are high power units like the turbonetics.
I just want as cheap as possible without going down the generic eBay route with shoddy manifolds and cheap wastegates, so how much do you think I should save,
My ecu and the accessories I will order to go with it is going to cost me about 1600 and on top of that I still have polybushes, suspension and bodywork to do so if I can save money on the turbo kit all the better
Plus chances are you will need to properly brace up the diff, swap it out to a 1.5way LSD to stop it breaking (getting interesting at 450bhp).
The biggest question too is what porting are you running ? A big turbo needs supporting ports to help it spool up nice and early.
The GT35r is a very nice bit of kit indeed, it picks its feet up nice and early and can give an all round good amount of grunt.
Can also depends what you really like, you can\'t beat the initial punch of the stock twins and the instant boost they provide. They do lack later up the rev range though.
Shaun
If you buy second hand you could get away with 1k, brand new you are looking 1.5K to 2K.
BorgWarner 363 or GT35R for your power goals
Isn\'t the BW a but big? There are a few complete GT35 kits available but expect to pay around £3,000
Well at the moment the engine is being rebuilt by my builder, he said it had a large street port but was surprised to see the primaries unported (apparently to aid quick spool up)
We have got a decent seal kit as it suffered a catastrophic water failure.
I have ordered all cryogenicaly treated apex seals etc from atkins in 2mm
All the EGR gubbins is getting gone I have installed braided lines, bigger fuel pump on order 1680s brought aswell as dm Motorsport fuel rail, oil filter is being relocated I have spent a lot of time preparing for heat with shielding and what not,
My ecu will be ordered when I know what turbo I\'m getting as its being made for me with fully terminated loom.
I\'m happy with the diff as it is, predictable and responsive.
Noticed plenty of eBay specials in these sizes but they look a bit cheap and :censored::censored::censored::censored:ty.
I could always get a manifold custom made if that works out cheaper.
Gt35 is looking tempting if it can hold the power reliably around 450
Interesting thread this......!
Who is doing the porting?
Seems like you are going about things the right way but then your considering getting a cheap used unit when your more or less getting everything else new.....what\'s the point of that?
You could have bought the other ite.s used like rails etc...even injectors one derived and cleaned would be like new....and spent money on a new turbo.....preferably with a decent warranty, so you have piece of mind.
What ecu are you going for out of curiosity?
It does sound like your doing things properley. You are better off with new parts.
Ebay specials could also be complete scrap, or break all the other good work your doing.
I run a GT3574r from A-spec. Its a hybrid turbo from America. Before I had the GT3574 journal version that was a nice turbo.
Shaun
The port was done by Haywards before I owned it, it has been cleaned up and extended to large street by my engine builder.
The ecu I am getting is a haltech platinum sport with full terminated loom, the provider will then load a base map for me when he knows my set up.
The reason I am looking at a cheaper option and by cheap I don\'t mean eBay special, is because I brought the car with the vast majority of my money, I was lied to it broke,
I am spending the money on things that will prevent this happening again soon, so wiring, fuel delivery, mix, these are engine killers, once the car is running and I can sell my other cars I can then save and spend for the better coilovers better turbo pack etc.
But right now I can justify lying a lump of about 7grand down on a car that should be running just fine especially when I can go out and buy a driver for the price of a new turbo
Ps1000 is cool, I have one....pretty sure I know who your getting it from......anyway you might as well buy an eBay bit of tat if your gonna change it againin a few months time ....just be careful with it, that\'s all!
There is a Borg Warner s300 up for sale secondhand with gasket and oil line for £500 and used a little, something like that kind of price would be good but then I still have to source manifold and wastegate where I would normally get a discount in kit form,
This is a nightmare
Also the haltech has a lot of parameters...so make sure you find someone who can use it properly.
Cheers ed, yes I\'m sure you do know him, he supplied my mates ecu and all the connecting bits, he also does basic maps for my mate to get him to a rolling road for a small fee.
I will be buying a few extras to ensure safety of my engine.
Shame I can\'t get them as cheap over here and I have to import
What s300 is it?
Pm me how much....as you can see I can get them too so might be able to help.
BorgWarner S300 - Service nubmer: 177280

Does he say what size wheels etc.....could be a 362,363,366 posibbly even a 372..?
Ball bearing?
Never seen a bb Borg apart from the EFR range?
For that price it must be journal bearing.
Remember you don\'t always have to buy what\'s on the shelf....I could always spec to turbo to your needs.....all you have to do is ask:Ladys-man

I know the price there is cheaper then what his asking but once you have imported it and buying all the bolt ons it\'s easily worth it
I am liking that idea mate, plus I have a soft spot for turbonetics after the monster one I had on my supra, thing was addictively noisy, may just have to get some prices off you in PM
PMs sent to you sir

could work, but personally for your goals, i feel the comp and p#turbine wheel arent matched well for a rotary....but as a stop gap could possibly be good for you.
I could supply you a manifold that with slight adjustment could be used to if you decided to go down this route.
Its not an ebay or used one BTW....:guinness
