Title: 2nd try RX7 FC Series 4 Drift
Post by: Sooperkent on August 18, 2013, 05:58:52 PM
Lets try again.

Found a RX7 close by (glasgow) and had to go see it! Been looking for something cheapish that is RWD to abuse up at driftland.

So went to see it and starts hot + cold.
Its a bit rough but it doesnt need to be pretty!

Today - we tackled the rears, and although the pipes looked alright, the back drivers side calliper Handbrake was stuck on, so time to remove.

Thats all for today - need to price up droplinks front and back, ball joint bushes and tie rod end bushes as well as a rebuild kit for the rear caliper.:Thumbs-up
And from what i can see it is not easy to source parts for these!

Joys of rotary ownership :D

So where was it you found it? Im very jealous of the 2nd gen action. But credit for rescuing what most would see as a scrap car :)

Was off a guy in Barhead - happened to chance on it on gumtree. Well luckily iv got somewhere to keep it and i can fix it up over time - main thing is, the body work is good, and theres very little rust.
Apparently the guy i bought it from bought it as a non runner and it had been sitting in someones garage since 2002..

Oh barrhead, thats literally round the corner from me. And I didnt even know about it! !

Your best bet is normally breakers, for bushes then I would look at polly bushes, plenty about  :)

For my FC I got a few bits from mazda in Hamilton using the chassis no, and for my FB I think they have some things like door rubbers. Definitely worth calling them!

Looki g forward to more photos :)

Right - alot of work started this weekend!
Received the brake caliper rebuild kit and brother did that during the week (no pics)

Then received our rear droplinks (got these on ebay for £12 theyre for a VW passat and fit perfectly :) Alot better than the £40 per link i was quoted by Mazda)

After that we tackled the bleeding of the brakes (twice) which when done my way worked a treat but not so good done my brothers way! haha
Homemade brake bleeding kit
(https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-JUZeg-9nTAU/Uho8jf5eVVI/AAAAAAAABOM/1DfuWFVKsp0/w433-h577-no/IMG_20130824_174041)

Brakes all sorted we started on the labourious task of removing all emissions related things from this usefull site - http://rotaryresurrection.com/2ndgen/tech_s4_na_emissions_removal.html (http://rotaryresurrection.com/2ndgen/tech_s4_na_emissions_removal.html)

Exhaust was all rotten and blowing badly so started to remove that but it just seemed to fall apart..

Seems a mission but we made a start anyways.

GOT BOOST??

Not too impressed with the vaccum lines
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-YdJ7TG_zVyQ/Uho7w55tUOI/AAAAAAAABL8/eJBNb1rpjYg/w433-h577-no/IMG_20130825_145615)

Thats where we are for this weekend - need to order new vac lines, stainless steel for the exhaust and dust boots for the front suspension and then it should be ready for mot, FINGERS CROSSED :)

Will keep you all updated :)

The drop links are interesting , how did you know they would fit ??

And because they are a different shape , will they work OK ??

Well, it looks like most droplinks are now going that way on the newer cars.

I asked the seller for the distance between the two boltholes which was exactly the same 3.5" as the stock ones and the shape doesn\'t matter, they are made from solid aluminium and wont stretch/bend :)

TBH there isn\'t all that much pressure on the ARB, definitely not enough to snap a solid ally droplink.

When you remove the air pump and block all the associated parts on the inlet manifold and fit an aftermarket exhaust the secondary ports in the I let manifold will no longer open as I could be wrong but I\'m sure they open once there is 3 psi exhaust pressure coming back from the exhaust up too the inlet manifold which is what operates them

I just used wire too hold them open full stop on my old jumanji fc

I still have a k and n induction kit and the decat and car back exhaust from that car if your looking for any of those bits

And if you need any help feel free too give me a call or drop a text on

Also if your not planning on running wider track I need your s4 n/s lower arm and can swap for the solid s5 arms

And good shout on the vw passat rear arb links only issue is the series 5 have a bearing inside so I\'m unsure if a bush type will work ok anyone have any ideas ??

Flew through its first drift day today :) Clutch feels a bit high now but no probems at all and the NA didnt have too much trouble breaking traction..

Going to look for Coilovers il put up a wanted post hopefully find some second hand.
Also anyone fitted a hydraulic handbrake? placement looks to be an issue as there isnt alot of space
And because im lazy as whats the wheel fitment on our 5 stud FC\'s?
