Well after getting one rex up and running today, my very own rx decided to burst a water pipe:rolleyes: It\'s the main pipe going from the pump to the top left of the rad. It didn\'t burst while driving but after it had heat soaked after switching off. I\'ve seen the pipe expand before and on closer inspection it is severly deformed and degraded.
Now i usually wouldn\'t mind waiting a few days for a new one, but my girlfriend gets back from Gambia tomorrow night after being away for 6months and I need to pick her up from Gatwic Airport (hmmmm). Anyone have any suggestions on how to sort it???? I could use a 90 degree silicon elbow and a metal flange joining the good bit of the old pipe to the new. But where can i get silicon of the correct size and shape in the same day????
Any suggestions will be more than welcome,
Cheers, Paul:)
Gatwicks just round the corner from me. Not a great drive from Nottingham though, and expensive in the rex!

Do you not have a local motor factors near you, they could get a pipe close and maybe you could adapt it if they dont have silicon pipes in stock.
If you are picking her up in the rex i hope she doesnt have to much luggage! ;)
Good luck!
All done and botched together using a ford coolant 90 degree elbow and a copper insert flange. Seems pretty sturdy, just hope that if it is going to go, then it\'ll "go" on the way back!, as i may have a hard time persauding the AA man to take me home to Notts via Gatwick airport  ;)
Have also just been into mazda, and both rad pipes are on back order, so i could be waiting months for them:eek: :( Think i\'ll have to sort out some kind of hard pipe kit using samcos and alloy tubing:)
Cheers, Paul:)
Must be a pretty late arrival tonight then if your still in Nottingham now!
The M25 is not going to be fun at all.
She gets in at 10.30am, so guess she\'ll go to customs and be through by about 11pm. So hopefully if i set off at 7pm from Notts, arrive at the m25 at around 8.30pm ish then hopefully I should be ok. What do you reckon???? does that sound feasible?
Cheers, Paul (Not looking forward to the m25 at all :( )
10.30am - thought you were late for a moment!
I see you mean PM, so going in the evening wont be so bad. Should be quite-ish around 8.30. Trouble is the 14miles around Heathrow at 40 and you cant go faster because loads of cameras and no-one else will. In theory it should only be about an hour once on the m25.
Your timing looks ok. I recon it will take about 3 hours plus any stopping or delays you come across, but obviously you dont want to be late.
LOL, yeah I meant PM, doh!. Yeah i think the timing should be ok if I can do say 90 on the m1 then stick to the limits on the m25. Problem is if i leave any earlier than 7pm from Notts I\'ll just get stuck this end:rolleyes: Just hope the car holds out, if not then I will be seriously late:mad:
Cheers for your help, Paul:)
There are no Services between the M1 and Gatwick. Once you get to the M25 if you need something you have to go and find it...
Cheers

Well I made it to Gatwick from Notts in just under 2hrs30mins, resulting in me getting there 1h15mins early:(, lol. Thankfully the plane was on time and my girlfriend arrived safe and sound:D. We just about managed to get all her junk (gifts, sorry ;) ) into the rx and we were home by about 2am. All in all I managed to do 350miles in total and all on one tank, well £57 worth of optimax, surely that must be some sort of economy record for an FD ???????? ;)
Cheers, Paul (no more playing with cars for a while now the gf\'s back  )
