Title: Needing some advice
Post by: baileyjdm on August 02, 2013, 09:48:47 PM
Im looking to get back into an rx7 and want opinions on what is best, an original unmolested standard sub 25k Rex with loads of history or a higher mile car but with a fresh engine done by a reputable garage? Thanks in advance.

Unused cars can be more of a problem than reguarly used  well maintained cars...:2Confused

...use (track/drag/thrashed car?)  and how they were stored might add some light?

Rust/damage/repair/how many owners? pics also tell a tale about a vehicle and whats the price difference between the two? :WaveBye

I would say your budget will maybe dictate the car you buy and can only suggest you take each car on its own merits then pop back in and ask opinions as you start seriously looking before committing to buy.

Realistically no more than £5.5k, will be able to stretch a little more in a few months but hoping there\'s no need. I have spotted a montego blue touring on eBay with sub 20k and all history from back in Japan. Not a big fan of the wheels but a set of standard ones shouldn\'t be too hard to come by. It\'s been there for a while and am tempted to take a look, maybe not the best grounds to mod? But really i am not intrested in going single again, really just want a clean example with maybe and exhaust, filters and a pfc.

Wheels can always be removed and sold to get what you want.

When you consider a proper rebuild by a specialist will cost £3 to £3.5K, then your £5.5 on a low milage may well be your best route,

There should be enough tips on do\'s and dont\'s when buying an FD here on MRC to be able to tell if it\'s a good un.

Biggest problem would the water seals on a car thats stood, so as long as its not dumping any water or making gurgaling sounds after a run then you should be fine.

hope this helps

Good advice there, much appreciated, the low miler had a comp Test on Monday and came back with high 7\'s across the board, probably doesn\'t say a lot about water seals but still a good reading. How good is the rx7 auto box in comparison to say a supra auto box? Is it fast shifting or a little lazy?
