Post by: Dragun on August 01, 2013, 02:10:05 PM
Hey guys,

Blew an seal in my t78 turbo, so had it rebuilt and fit it back, now the car idles crazy, revs up to 3k drops, revs up and drops etc etc. didn\'t do this before so what could cause this by just changing out and back in the turbo.?? Thanks guys.

Normally a sign of an air leak on the engine, is there a vacuum hose off somewhere?

Hi Dave, last time I had the same symptoms it was an air leak from where the butterfly\'s were removed, plugged that up and idled fine. I\'ve had a look around and can\'t see or hear anything :/. What I find odd is that it never happened before turbo was out. We only removed the oil feed/drain pipes and turbo, nothing else that I can see has been knocked or pulled off :/ really confused. But I think your right as its almost identical to when I had that air leak. Is there anyway. Of testing for air leaks?

A squirty bottle of soapy water and squirt the joints and stuff where air might leak. Is the compressor housing tightened up properly? They may not have done them up by accident

Hi grant, will try the soap bottle thing and see. Looking at the large snap ring on the back that holds the chra to compressor housing seems secure enough, I\'m guessing if it wasn\'t secure you could feel the air leaking from there.

Right managed to have a look, housings seem secure but I noticed to compressor wheel is spinning quite fast during this bouncey idle, but if I use my hand to cover up the front of the turbo (turbo literally tries to suck my hand into the cold side) me blocking this air makes it idle fine :s so it seems turbo is sucking in too much air? Didn\'t think the t78s compressor wheels spun much on idle, is there something I\'m missing??
