Title: 20B ECU... what&why?
Post by: Speedworks on July 20, 2013, 11:45:07 AM
Bringing a question here that I posted on RX7club some weeks go...

I\'m planning a 20B conversion for my FD and one of my main concerns is the ECU.
I know, plenty of choice in principal but as we all know, 20B conversion are not cheap and finding a good Quality/price product is a must.

Also taking into account to have a decent tuner in the (more or less) direct region for tuning.

Some posibillities have crossed my mind...

-Microtech: LT12 version seems commonly used in the US and UK but main remarks seem to be the outdated hard and software, making it harder to finetune and the ECU lacks additional in and output channels for fe. wideband, EGT etc.
Price wise probably one of the best buys

- Halltech/Motec: Putting these on more or less thesame level for price and function. Still in higher category

- AEM: seems to be used from time to time in the US. Less people over here that are used with it

- Pectel/Cosworth: seems to be top rate but top price (4000USD+) as well. I know someone who has a Pectel ECU on his 20B and has nothing but good on it

Feel free to add or commend, by preference your own experience with one of these ore others.

thx

I have used Microtec Ltx12 on my 20b and currently I am using Motec. I would say, the best buy for your 20b would be Motec. Ltx12 is a limited option ECU.  As far the other brands are concerned, I have a zero knowledge about them. However, I have heard that LINK Extreme ECU is also good.

Haltech ps2000, or the model before that which is the E11v2, same features but the ps2000 has much easier useability. I asked Haltech directly for the differences and they just said useability.

Pectel are expensive but possibly some of the best ECUs going. Life racing is similar to pectel but don\'t quote me on that.

With Haltech and motec you have to pay to be able to use certain features but they don\'t unlock them, a pain in the arse TBH.

With the pectel ECUs you prety much get everything available too you. AFAIK.

Pikes peak racers use pectel.

The only downside is the price:eek:

Haltech all the way!!!

And grant you don\'t pay any extra for anything on a haltech to use its full functionality at all - motec on the other hand you pay to unlock its features..

I knew Motec was a definate for paying for features, wasn\'t too sure on Haltech. But that\'s great news as I have Haltech:D

I have been looking over the Haltechs info and can\'t seem to find if they have mappable dwell for ignition in the features list. Not something that is a necessity but would be nice too have

Dwell times can be set yes in the haltech but they should only be changed to suit your coil whether it be ls1 or aem smart coil or what ever

I think pip does deal in them and has tuned them, but your best asking him direct.

Was considering swapping to a LinkG4-RX for the FD and getting pip to map it.
