Hi guys!
Just a quick introduction thread to say hello. I\'m new to the rotary scene and looking for my first RX-7. Obviously given the nature of these cars a LOT of research is required before taking the plunge, so that\'s what I\'m currently doing.
The car in the link below has caught my eye. I was hoping maybe some of you guys with more knowledge than me could look at the advert and give me your opinions. The owner has agreed to have a compression test carried out, champagne test OK and the car is using no water. Planning on giving Hayward Rotary a bell to discuss the work and make sure that everything checks out and that the warranty would be transferrable to myself.
Something that I\'m struggling with is price. Given that there\'s so many variables with these cars it seems very hard to get a grasp on what each car is worth. It looks fairly tidy, has an impressive spec and obviously has had the rebuild this year with warranty until 2015 but does this merit the asking price?

Thanks for reading and thanks to anyone with any advice!
Liam
It looks like a nice car, but I\'d rather spend £10k on a standard 99 spec model.
Also I don\'t think HKS ever made a twin turbo pack for the RX7.

As above, no HKS twins were ever made according to HKS. So what else in the add is the owner mis-informed on? Makes you wonder.
That looks about £5000 worth at most! These cars are on their arse and there really is nothing about the car to warrant the asking price. I know this may sound harsh but there are far nicer cars with a better spec for less than half the price of this ;)

Thanks for the info, I\'ll query that with the owner. Do you think a standard 99 spec would be a safer bet than this? Being the car they are, I thought having just had a rebuild this year would be the route with least risk. If I went for a newer car without a recent or any rebuild, what kind of mileage would keep it a responsible buy?

Thanks for the reply. Any for sale links as an example? :)
Cheers all!
These cars aren\'t always the easiest things to own and buying a car from a long time member of here or FDUK is not a bad thing. You can always look at the history of the car, see what work has been done on it.
Research is key, There is huge amounts of information available for these cars including factory manuals and info on nearly every modification you can think of.
Welcome aboard :D

I know a rebuild with warranty is a big selling point, but for £10k a really tidy 99 would be my preference.
The way I see the pricing of the one you linked to is this; He\'s whacked 4-5k on top of what that car\'s worth and is essentially passing on the cost of the rebuild to the new owner. Don\'t get me wrong though, it looks like a well modified, tidy car.
I\'d also rather a standard car so you have ultimate control on what modifications are done, even if it cost a bit in the long run.

Just gorgeous !!
There is a chap selling a silver rsr that is beautiful.
Alot cheaper than that. And without the lies and B/S to try and get a sale. Will point him here.
This one.

I know which one I\'d choose

If for example a tidy 99 spec was for sale, what sort of mileage is acceptable before you\'re looking for it to have been rebuilt? I understand there are no safe bets with these cars but just looking for a rough idea. I had a figure of 35-40k in mind.

Stunning! Unfortunately I really don\'t fancy silver. Other than that, with 35,000 on an 18 year old engine should I expecting some big bills in the near future? With reference to my comment above about mileage.

Thanks for that. Unfortunately don\'t think I fancy silver.
Cheers again everyone.
Could I also ask, the example I posted that a few commented on being overpriced. What do you realistically think it\'s worth? Low miles, good condition, impressive spec providing it all checks out and warranted rebuild until 2015. If not £10,500 then how much?
Many thanks again.
I know someone that is looking to sell a 99spec with a recent rebuild single turbo. Clean car for about 14k. If your interested give me a shout 07880407019
Think the best question is do you want a standard twin or modded single? Is it the warranty that you are specifically after? If thats the only real concern then buy a cheaper car that you love the look of and spend the eventual extra money rebuilding when or if the time comes. Car in OP looks fine and who am I to tell you what and how much to spend, just thinking ahead if you ever want to go single thats not the cheapest option.
Just my 2p
Oh and why 99spec? Totally stock cars are worth the money but most are modded anyway
The way I look at it, you could spend £10k on a car with a rebuild and warranty, or £5k for a car with decent compression figures but not in-warranty.
The £5k car will probably be fine for years, and if it needs a rebuild, that\'s another £5k so you\'re even. If it doesn\'t, then you\'re £5k better off.
Why are 99 spec cars so raved over, bar the lights and higher specced twins which really don\'t make much difference, is it really worth the price tag?
A well sorted 93 :censored::censored::censored::censored:es on a shabby 99 to a driver, I mean its 2013 is a 99 car that desirable?
Just a question dudes my personal car is a 95 and not wanting a war just opinions
well of a course a well sorted 93 is going to be preferable to a shabby 99, but you know and the whole forum knows that a 99 on the whole is going to be tidier, newer and fresher than a 93 car.
Don\'t take it personally dude, it\'s just common sense.
Message to self:
Stop writing on forums when you come back from the pub.
I followed this with slashing on my parents kitchen floor and falling asleep in the garden chair. Doh, old enough to know better.
Good luck on the search. Id love an RX7 alongside the RX8
