Title: Injector wiring question FD3s
Post by: Arnie_O on June 26, 2013, 09:36:34 PM
Got a problem with at FD 8 bit ECU
Car won\'t start... Was bought as non runner but everything seems to be working.
However I seem to have narrowed the problem to the injectors, wiring, ect.
It\'s been messed with by the previous owner.
However I cannot get the injectors to fire...
Have tries a second set of rails with injectors and still nothing.

Can anyone in the know tell me how standard FD injectors are wired
Am I correct in thinking they have two wires
One being a ground and the other being power.
How are they triggered... (What sends the signal for them to open)

Previous owner has spliced in a set of new (well hey are never) injector wires, seperate from the loom
However it seems they made a :censored::censored::censored::censored: up an have spliced on of the secondary injectors in for a primary...
Anyway they have 4 individual wires to the ECU but where do the other wires feed to?

Have looked at a pinout of the ECU I can only find one pin for each injector (these have power around 11.5volt)
The two additional cables (i am assuming are grounds) from the new injector cables have been spliced in to on of the OMP pins

Lastly will the injectors fire if I have the UIM and throttle body removed and connectors to them unplugged?

I am now a little stumped and looking for help

It\'s running a standard 8bit ECU on a 1993 import

Each injector has 2 wires a ground & power. I thought the ecu triggered them but i may be wrong.

If you find the diagnostic port near the passenger side shock tower & battery & short the F/P & GND connections with the ignition on this will activate the fuel pump & put pressure in the fuel system so you can test that the injectors actually spray fuel if/when they are triggered rather than just clicking.

The UIM & throttle body shouldnt affect the injectors but if you start the car you will have a coolant leak from the pipe on the UIM & it will run very rough due to the TPS being disconnected, HTH

The ecu triggers them by grounding them, switched ground.

Does your rpm gauge move when turning the car over. If it doesn\'t your CAS sensors are the problem and the ecu doesn\'t know the engine is spinning and therefore won\'t supply fuel.

Had a problem very similar and just switched the harness and it worked perfect

Well after a lit of work since we got the car as a non runner... It finally took its first breath in a long time...
Basically traced all the injector wires and reconnected all the original loom wires
After fixing a few more broken wires hidden in heaps of insulation tape.

I finally got the (spare)  Primary injectors (on a rail setup outside the engine) to fire... Re-assembled the engine... And it fired up first time.
Sounds a little lumpy like it may be missing at low RPM but I can hear both primaries clicking in the rail when using a probe.
Have swapped out the HT Leads may look at the plugs next.
There is a slight rattle from the engine sometimes that sounds like a heatsheild... (I may be wrong) that goes away once I raise the revs

Coolant level and temp sensors are not working on the dash either.

Anyone know where I can get some new Denso Injector connectors from in the UK?

Be careful that the primary and secondary plugs are on the right way around as the secondary plugs will reach and fit the primary injectors and visa versa

Yes they are correct... I doubt that the wires in my loom are long enough to get them the wrong way
