I ask because a Police car ran a red light at a set of Lights I was approaching
causing the car in front of me to do an emergency stop half way through the
junction and I ran into him.
The Police Officer admitted causing the accident, heard by both me and the
other driver.
So is it cut and dried - I also took photographs of where the cars were in the
middle of the yellow hatching.
I have their names and a log number.
He said just pass the details onto my insurance who will contact the Police
insurance and there will be no argument about liability.
Anyone had any experience with this sort of claim or advice on anything else I
should do
Well peed off.
Blimey - thats not good :(
Was the Police car using its lights & sirens and responding to a call? If not he is as liable for prosecution like any member of the public.
What sort of damage was done?
If he had sirens on then no chance. However even if he didn\'t, although he caused the person in front of you to slam on, you have driven into the rear of that car, an insurance company will see it as your fault for not driving at an acceptable stopping distance, so be careful with what you say.
My friend drive into the back of someone who had no brake lights, although the car would be deemed as faulty, he was still at fault for not driving with care and attention.
If the copper has said it was his fault for the accident and has reported it to the police insurers with your names and details you should be ok, it depends on the insurers finds from their own investigations.
Also I would watch out for the person you hit claiming on your insurance too, as like I said you hit them.
Probably not helped you much, but hopefully give you a better idea on how to approach the situation:)
He hit the lights and sirens as he was on the junction.
About 500yrs after leaving the police station
I\'m going down to my insurance broker in the morning
Let you know what they say
It was only a minor shunt cracked my plastic front bumper beyond repair and part of the plastic punctured the rad

On a point of law, I agree with the above 89%....
Mir
89%?! Lol. Cracked bumper is a garentee for compensation setting.... I mean whip lash setting in..:(
All emergency vehicles with lights and sirens on HAVE to ensure that all traffic has stopped before crossing a junction against a red light. They can creep forward to ensure better visibilty but before pullong out they have to make sure all traffic has seen and stopped for them to continue.
I believe the Police are not insured, not in the way you and me are apparently.
