Title: For Everyone That Remembers Zeus:
Post by: gsb876 on June 06, 2013, 04:59:50 PM
Hi everyone,

Some of the older members of MRC will remember my Japanese Akita, Zeus - sadly he is no longer will us and was put to sleep last Thursday. Very sad time for us all as he was not our pet but our friend, over 11 years passed by so quickly.

knew I shouldn\'t have watched that vid :( :(

We had to have our dog put down a few years back , we had had him for 13 years and known him since he was 8 weeks old

Its a horrible thing to go thru , but mate , it gets easier as time passes , it really does

Ben used to have fits , and he had gone blind and deaf and he was old , he couldn\'t hold anything in and was making a mess of the house , looking back we left it too long before doing the right thing and having him put to sleep , but its such a hard choice to make .. but as long as your doing the right thing for the dog , then .. well .. its the right thing ;)

gonna stop typing as im filling up now :( :( :(

I had both of our dogs individually cremated and I have both of their ashes in my study .. im never far away from them both :)

It was a very hard decision to make because looking at him he was as strong as ever, but he was having seizures which is a sign of a brain tumor and one of his eyes had turned upwards. That was possibly a stroke or the tumor pressing against his eye from the rear, he also had a lump on his chest which was getting larger every week. We saw the vets but they said it was not fair to put Zeus through too much as he was an old dog, i sat with him for many nights outside to see if he was ready. When his eye got bad he would no longer look my in the eyes as he knew something was wrong.

In the end he did not want to go, they had to give him 3 shots just to get him to lie down, it was that which upset us so much as wanted to stay with us but would have been in incredible pain by the next week.

His canvas has been ordered 40x36 inches and his ashes will be home this week, he will never be forgotten and while we live in the same house he will never be replaced.

We didn\'t think we would replace ours , but we got a puppy least year - he was born on Xmas day and we got him at 8 weeks old

He\'s about 18 months old now , and its so nice to have a dog back in the house

He can be a real pain .. but that\'s the joy with animals :)

I do like the hero\'s welcome every time I come home from work though :D :D :D

Because this house was Zeus\' home we will not get another one unless we move house, that is what i said to the family.

Once his canvas and ashes return we will begin to redesign the back garden for the kids.

Thanks Lisa,

He will never be forgotten, my brother was saying not to feel bad because Zeus never needed anything, he was more than just looked after and knew he was loved.

I am going to write a book about our story and all income will be donated to the Japanese Akita Rescue center, would not feel right to make anything from his memory :cheers
