Title: It\'s alive but not running right!
Post by: Spence on May 16, 2013, 05:51:29 PM
So I got the fc started today, however idle is rough and tries to stall. We had to put separate wires to the coils to get power to them so not sure what\'s up with that.

Done a compression test and front rotor is just under 90 psi and rear is 75 psi. Not great but I don\'t think it\'s that bad.

My question is why does it idle so bad ad seems to have low down miss fire then as you build revs it clears?

Also I heard there is a way to get slightly better psi from rotors if you chuck something in there? Probably hasn\'t been on the road for 10 years.

Your seals may be stuck slightly with it being sat a long time. Have you put new plugs in? If you keep it running and squirt a bit 2stroke oil in the engine it should help free up the seals. It will smoke a fair bit until the oils has burnt off.

you can use a ATF trick if they are stuck ( auto trans fluid )

You can inject 5mm into each spark plug , leave it ( maybe overnight ) , the i think you have to start it .. it WILL produce clouds of smoke though

The ATF breaks down any carbon build up in the housings etc...

Won\'t there be 1 tip left untouched if you put it in the spark holes? Or put it in then turn it over?

Yes, crank the engine over by hand

Also does anyone think the compressions are ok?

nearly 1 bar between them .. its not ideal i dont think

BUT , it depends on what each face is like ( you should in real terms get 6 figures )

Are those readings conistent, or is fluctuating on each rotor?

It\'s a normal compression tester so not one that tests each face.

Run the engine up nice and hot then a little water down the inlet ??? That\'s how we used too get all the crap out of the big old v8 twin turbo diesels offshore
