Hoping some guy\'s in this area can help me here!?
I just wanted to check what the correct cooler plumbing and setup should be on my car. I am running a 20B in an FD3 but using an FC oil cooler. The FC oil cooler looks like a twin pass as it has entry and exit at the same end. one in the top and one in the side. There is also a 3rd fitting which I guess maybe a drain but not sure if it also has a thermostat or something in it as cannot get it out currently and looking through the hole it is adjacent too it appears something might be inside it?
All this boils down to I want to make sure if it matters which way I connect the oil cooler from a point of view of oil inlet and oil outlet? And going on from there I wanted to check on the 20B engine (I guess same for all) Is oil out from the front and then in to the rear by the filter?
Ideally I planned to put hot oil in at the top and cool come out of the bottom but if that plug is something other than a drain that may not work as it is on the top in my install and I assume it would normally sit on the bottom?
If no one is sure it would be very helpful if someone could post a link or page from the FC manual so I can figure out the plumbing from there.

Can Anyone please confirm on an FC which line on the engine goes to which point on the oil cooler?? I.e. the front pipe from the engine front plat goes to??
Been all over the internet. Got an FC manual and the pictures in it contradict one another!

I just took my oil cooler off today, so yes top is from the front housing, and side bottom is to the rear of the engine for return. I believe there is a thermostatic valve in it. Not sure what temp it\'s set for - will have to look that up in the service manual. On my tablet at the mo, don\'t think I have the pdf on here.
Just checked the service manual - that thermostat is set for about 65 C - it\'s the device that you think is a drain plug.

That is perfect.. Great help.. My cooler is mounted upside down. But That will have to stay .. I just want to be sure I plumb it correctly due the the thermostat probably won\'t flow properly backwards!
They are great oil coolers with the right air flow, only issue seems to be that some of them get a crack or leak from around the fittings. I followed Bish\'s setup and used AN10 fittings and metric adaptors - makes taking it off a doddle now :-)
