Welcome !

Sounds like you\'ve got a pretty good car history, S2000 turbo must have been pretty quick?

Good luck looking for a car, there are some good ones that do come up for sale here from time to time.  Most of our cars are imports from Japan, as only 126 were ever sold new in the UK (!).  Hopefully that isn\'t a problem for you to import one to France.
Are you looking for near-standard or a higher power one?  (Normally the high power cars run single turbo instead of the standard twin sequential setup).

These are the pages I refer back to for model changes (Type X, R etc).  Note that the models change each year, so a 1999 Type RS is different from a 1996 Type RS which is different from a 1995 one.

http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=394&page=3
http://www.rx7.net.nz/fd-jp-models.html

Broadly speaking:
All FDs have the same power output until 1996.
If it has an \'R\' in the Type name (R, R1, R2, RS, RS-R, RZ) then it is a \'performance\' version with stiffer suspension, a full pair of strut braces and oil coolers.  Most cars are in this category.
The others are Type/Touring X or S, which are more \'luxury\' models where you may find leather seats, sunroof, automatic gearbox, bose hifi, but only one strut brace and only one front oil cooler.

Most models have 4 seats, the 2-seat versions are rare (most well known is the valuable RZ).

Later-model and higher-grade \'R\' models have bigger wheels and brakes, shorter gearing, and Bilstein dampers.

All the above is just general guidance, check each individual car for points you care about.

QuoteIn uk spec km or mph ? Japan km right ?
Yes, all cars in Japan will have had the speedometer and odometer in km.  However, the majority will have been converted to miles when imported to the UK.  You may be able to change them back by e.g. removing the added-on converter chip behind the instruments.

I do believe Trind aka Keith is selling a standard beautiful black FD on here. Have a look in the for sale section and he in touch with him.

Trind\'s car is sold, and anyway was a 2-seater.  Agree it looked a good \'un.

Folek has already expressed interest in CharlieP\'s white car, which looks the most suitable candidate of what\'s for sale here.

I agree about looking here, I bought my car from a member here and was very glad to do so :-)

I would expect to spend weeks or months waiting for the right car to come up.

If you can pay £7500, I would say the blue \'99 should be the first car to look at.

There were a few changes Mazda made in 1996 and some more in 1999, which make the car more reliable.  Since you probably don\'t have a garage near you which understands rotary cars, it may be worth paying for this.

Reliability changes - basically from \'96 the twin turbo control system is electronic rather than pneumatic, which is more reliable and easier to fix if it goes wrong.  From \'99 it has better cooling and oil metering that is quicker to respond.
http://mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=77822

I\'m not saying you shouldn\'t buy an older car, (my own car is \'96) just that it\'s worth considering the value of the various small improvements with a \'99 spec.

BTW \'erratic rev counter\' would mean that on some days, the rev counter works fine, on other days it does not work.  Probably there is a loose electrical connection somewhere behind the dashboard.

Thank you Samoht ^^ do you know if they are other difference between this 99 spec and older one fd ? except the front bumper ( it\'s great !!! ) and what you said top

If i want boost the engine after made all my administrativ papers is it the same part for all the fd? exhaust ecu air filter ( I ask because When i have my s2k they are a lot of part for 1999 to 2005 all compatible for f20c after in 2006 the s2K have got lot of change VSA and more electric not the same part not the same turbo kit bolt on etc etc :( )

You need a different version of the Apexi ECU for the \'99 spec cars, I think.
I think the other parts are similar but I\'m not 100% sure.

The 99 spec cars have different turbochargers which are slightly more efficient and make slightly more power (280hp compared to 255 for the early ones).

Tuning is same throughout all the years, But ecu\'s are different between early years and late years, Price would still be nealy the same, Apart from the different years for the ecu everything is still interchangable

The \'99-spec Apexis do come up for sale from time to time, just not as common as the ones for the earlier cars.

Alternatively you can pay double to get a brand new one from Oz:
