Title: Rx7 Help Pls!
Post by: dragonebz on March 27, 2013, 12:51:10 PM
Hi everyone, I.ve been on this forum for quite a while now and this will be my first post.

I currently have an 231 rx8 and wanted to purchase an rx7 however there are some faults on the car I\'m currently viewing here is what it said.

"THERE IS A HARSH VIBRATION WHEN YOU PULL OFF AND A HIGHER REVS - THE BEST WAY TO DESCRIBE IT IS AS IF IT HAS A WELDED DIFF BUT IT HASNT ITS LSD - THIS IVE BEEN ADVISED OFF THE FORUMS IS MORE THAN LIKELY A WARPED FLYWHEEL OR A CLUTCH PRESSURE PLATE - HOWEVER THIS COULD BE SOMETHING ELSE COULD BE PROPSHAFT OR MAYBE AXEL COULD COST £200 COULD BE £350 IF ITS AXEL BUT JUST BEEN HONEST - STILL DRIVE IT ANYWHERE"

Can someone please advice me of anyone had this experience and will it be too much to spend on this?

I know its difficult to tell by not actually looking at the car but if someone can  advice me who had this experience. It may cost alot and wont be worth it...

Thank you in advance....

Sounds more serious than that to me and even could be a busted engine.

He said that the engine has been rebuild 20k miles ago at a cost of over 6k!

Here is the full details...

"97,000 MILES (CONVERTED FROM KM ESTIMATED - 60,000 MILES)

A THICK FOLDER FULL OF HISTORY AND RECIEPTS FOR THIS CAR WILL COME WITH THIS RX

CRUCIAL ENGINE REBUILD RECIEPT FROM JIMMYS RX7 SPECIALIST IS PRESENT WAS DONE IN 2006 AT 75,000 MILES SO LESS THAN 20,000 MILES AGO - THE RECIEPT SHOWS A BREAKDOWN OF EVERYTHING WHICH WAS DONE AND COST £6300!! IF YOU BUY A RX7 WITHOUT THE REBUILD BEEN DONE THEN THATS WHY YOU GOT IT CHEAP! LOL MY ENGINE WILL START PERFECT 1ST TIME EVERYTIME HOT OR COLD WITH NO UNWANTED NOISES!

IT HAS SOME FAULTS AS YOU WOULD EXPECT FOR A 18 YEAR OLD CLASSIC CAR

ELECTRIC WINDOWS WORK WHEN THEY WANT MORE NOT THAN THEY WORK

MILEOMETER HAS GONE BLANK ITS LIT UP ONCE IN THE LAST 2 MONTHS WHICH IT READ 97,000 MILES - LAST YEARS MOT SHOWS 92,000 SO YOU CAN SEE ITS GENUINE

THERE IS A HARSH VIBRATION WHEN YOU PULL OFF AND A HIGHER REVS - THE BEST WAY TO DESCRIBE IT IS AS IF IT HAS A WELDED DIFF BUT IT HASNT ITS LSD - THIS IVE BEEN ADVISED OFF THE FORUMS IS MORE THAN LIKELY A WARPED FLYWHEEL OR A CLUTCH PRESSURE PLATE - HOWEVER THIS COULD BE SOMETHING ELSE COULD BE PROPSHAFT OR MAYBE AXEL COULD COST £200 COULD BE £350 IF ITS AXEL BUT JUST BEEN HONEST - STILL DRIVE IT ANYWHERE

SMALL SMALL BLOW ON SMALL TURBO MANIFOLD

ALL EASY FIXES AND NOT FORTUNES FOR PARTS"

Now shall I walk away?
I also have a subaru impreza 2006 and we are doing a deal on this car and would like to know if i\'m jumping into a black hole :3Confused Or biting more than i can chew:2eek

Just because it was rebuilt 20000 miles ago don\'t mean it ain\'t knackered lol

Recent compression test would be nice. Champagne test.  Etc etc.

Does look nice.

How do i do a champagne test? What other things should i look for apart from the usual things for buying cars? What i mean is what are the common things that fails on rx7? I really want to do a compression test but dont know anyone that could do it for me..... anyone can help me ill pay.... pweeeety pweese :chat

I would be asking  seller to provide a recent compression test at his cost, pretty common for selling a rotary.

It could be several different things tbh. Maybe engine mounts, a bent wheel or balancing. Best thing to do is test the engine\'s compression and water seals firstly.
The way he has described it doesn\'t really say much to figure out what it could be. Need more details such as is it consistent, does it happen only low down and high revs, does it feel like the vibration is coming from front or rear of car, does it happen when under harsh braking, are all the fluid levels ok, what clutch does it have installed.

It does look nice, I agree.  However I would try to avoid getting too fixated on any one single car, as it makes it hard to be objective about it.

The only way I would personally buy that car would be to take it to a rotary specialist and have it inspected and a quote for fixing the vibration problem.  Otherwise, however cheap it is, it\'s not going to be cheap enough when you consider that an engine rebuild could be £5k and good cars are available for around £5k too.

Could it be an engine bearing on the E shaft? maybe look at front pully when running to see if it stays true...

Don\'t know anyone that way for a compression test.  Edd rx7 parts does London way and surrounding area.  Go on you tube and look for rx7 champagne test or water seal failure.
