Title: Wankel engines in Aircraft
Post by: KenD on March 09, 2013, 07:19:17 PM
Quoteand the funny thing about rotaries is that they should be in aeroplanes
Thought I\'d answer you here yehreally rather than on the intro thread.  The answer is they have been for years....the first wankel powered aircraft to fly was a Lockheed reconnaissance aircraft in the late 60\'s.  Mazda 13B engines (amongst others) have been and continue to be used in several light aircraft.  Plenty more info to be found here:

Quoteif you there was another choice for an aeroplane engine for a a car what would it be and why?
To be honest I can\'t think of any engines that you would want to use from a practical viewpoint.  Plenty of racing cars have had them, but I think only Tucker ever put one in to a production car.
